Huion WH1409 Tablet Review + How to Install and Settings

I've been using one of these tablets for months, and the improvements I've been able to make with the larger surface really show in my work. It's a wonderful tablet, and one I'd recommend to anyone. Great feel, great material, extremely lightweight, handy storage drive, quite useful buttons...driver issues aside, there's not much to say against this tablet. However, If I had any complaint, it'd be the charging point. You see, because it's inset, most Micro-USB cables don't fit in there to charge the thing...which is problematic if your tablet cable was, say, destroyed in a lawnmower, somehow. I've been unable to work for about a week and a half now due to a dead battery and a lack of cables small enough to fit into the port to charge the thing.

+Chris D Yeah... at the time my phone lacked a charging cable, and the Huion cable happened to work - very well, at that. Now, my mower is a fancy one - spotlights, cigarette lighter, USB ports, the works. It was while charging my phone with one of these ports that the long cord happened to get caught on some part of the machine, tearing it from my phone. the cable itself is fine, but the plug was irreparably damaged. Thankfully, the tablet was fully charged and has a wonderful 40 hour lifespan - it wasn't until I moved into the dorm for the semester that that last charge ran dry.

I have a this same tablet and I struggled getting the charging port in because the port itself was strangely embedded into the tablet which made me kinda wiggle in the cable to get it to charge. That alone made me pretty anxious because it seems like I was damaging my brand new drawing tablet/ charging cable.

I have very good experiences with this tablet. I got it and set it up immediately and was instantly happy with the results. I definitely would like to program the keys for controlz and controlt so i can undo and select layers, as well as pressure sensitivity but I'm unsure how to do so with windows 10.

I talk about that around the 05:00 mark. You have to "run as administrator" on the tablet settings icon and then click "advanced settings."

Lol, I have had my Huion WH1409 tablet since Christmas, and I haven't had to charge it since! I use it to from 2 to 6 hours a day, and that just shows how long of a battery life span it has! I recommend this to everyone!

That specific tablet and krita dont work really well. There is a bug and the krita team knows it, but they dont fix it.

Just got this tablet and it's (so far) wonderful! Amazon offered a multi-year (3 or 4 years, i can't remember offhand). I worked on a Wacom Graphire for about a quarter of it's size for two years and Vistablet about half it's size for about 12 years (even going so far as to re-soldering the power cable when it broke off). After a lot of research (and the power cable on my old tablet breaking AGAIN) I decided to get this tablet. I work primarily in Photoshop, and generally do not use a tablet when I am using Illustrator, so the keybindings didn't really get me much, though I had read other reviews that had mentioned it. I have to thank you though! I spent an hour, frustrated, trying to figure out how to program the keys! XD

Even though I don't own a tablet, I installed the driver and poked it here and there. It should be possible to writer a tool that monitors which program is active and switches the driver configuration. If you want to, I could try to develop such a tool.

I happen to have a Turcom tablet (Huion clone), and I think the reason for the charging is because wacom and huion interface with the pen in different ways. If I were to guess, I'd say that it's likely that Wacom uses a transiever and a chip set built to run on really low voltage, and Huion uses a much cheaper and simpler transmitter solution. And for those of you who are afraid of the cheap tablets because of them using batteries, let me just say that I've had mine for 3 years now, and I'm still using the original AAA battery that came in the box... and the power button was jammed shut the entire time.

I have one of those Huion tablets. It's my first drawing tablet, I got it for Christmas and I'm still happy that I haven't broke it or mess up the buttons. But the tablet pen has a few cracks because almost all of my floors are hard floors so yeah, small plastic pen meets tile floor or wooden floor. But it still works nonetheless.

I'm not an artist, I don't draw, but I find it interesting to see how you work. I'm a bit baffled that the driver requires administrator privileges to define advanced keyboard shortcuts and doesn't have per-application settings. What are the possible settings for what a button press should trigger? I assume there's at least the possibility to emulate a key press or mouse click. If it also offers to run a command instead, it may be possible to emulate the per-application presets.

Unlike other tablets where you program keys by typing in the shortcut, with this Huion you have to pick the keys from a dropdown menu and then check boxes for whether CTRL ALT or SHIFT are included. That was kind of odd.

I checked the manual and saw that too. I also highly doubt there there's any possibility to import/export presets using a command line. The only way I could think of to automate preset switching would be to kill the driver utility, change the presets manually (hoping they're saved in config file or the Windows registry) and restart the utility. Unfortunately, this would require extensive testing and is impossible without having the tablet at hand.

Not a criticism, but the manual that came in my box (got it this morning and waiting for pen to charge) is only the quick start manual - 4 pages for each of 11 different languages.

Tbh a wacom intuos draw is probably best for a beginning artist.

My mom got me a Huion for Christmas to use on my Mac at her house two years ago, but it wouldn't work, no matter what we did. We registered on the website, filed complaints, Googled solutions, all to no avail. Currently I own two Wacom tablets--one at my mom's house with the Mac, and one at my dad's house with a Cyberpower PC. While it is not as big as the Huion, it works well and I enjoy using it. I also cannot afford SAI or any Adobe products yet, so that stinks. But the animating program I _do_ use on my PC, FireAlpaca, works like a charm and is probably a close second to Adobe Animator. I haven't figured out how to upload any of my animations to KZbin yet because I can't afford iMovie on the Mac, and Maximova or whatever it's called is too expensive to use on the PC. I'm only thirteen, so this much was expected, of course. I do not plan on studying animation in college--it's never been a big choice for me, just a hobby. But I do hope that one day, I could possibly be as talented and popular as many animators such as Stariaat, Yeagar, and of course, Crowne Prince. I am done giving my story. Thank you for reading it.

I have a fairly cheap, and small (a little smaller than a piece of printer paper) drawing tablet that i LOVE with alll of my heart!!! it is an xp-pen star 05, Bluetooth and and the charge lasts around 3 days (same as my headphones XP) don't need to charge the pen annnnnnnnddd no battery. it is the best tablet for portable use, it comes with a cute little glove too! (also a left-handed option)

I'm a complete noob... I'm looking at a wacom "paper" edition, but this tablet is the large size I'm looking for --plus I've heard other good things. So I guess my question is, can you trace "thru" paper on a regular tablet (other than wacom "paper" edition) like this one? While my goal is to eventually draw straight up on this, I have existing artwork that I would like to digitize in terms of pencil/ink to begin with. I'll probably go for it anyway, because I believe I will adapt to the tablet/screen disconnect fine, but I am curious if a simple trace through paper will work also. Well, it's been more than 3 years now....how's it working out for you?? We use ours to edit and correct images which is far quicker and so much easier than using a mouse or trackball. Especially around eyes, brows, lashes, lips, etc. Cool video by the way!

I got myself a really cheap XP-Pen tablet, $15 I think? I recommend that brand for those a bit skeptical of the digital art thing, their tablets don't do the job perfectly, but certainly enough to convince me of buying something more substantial. You should bring up OpenToonz at some point, I think it has the potential to become an industry standard with how it's probably the most capable free animation software available.

I got this exact tablet mid-january of this year. For the first few weeks I found the tablet really hard to use, it's not something you want to get if you're not good with computers. The drivers aren't the best (although that's just classic Huion - great hardware, awful software.) I had a lot of trouble with SAI but managed to fix it after discovering the run as admin rule. The cursor also gets uncentred alot in SAI aswell, although it can be fixed by clicking on the taskbar, but it's only a temporary fix. I'm having a bit of trouble with toonboom but I think it could just be damage to the tablet, it worked fine before. I found that the USB isn't great either, my computer doesn't detect it unless its inserted in a very certain way, so I just keep it plugged in all the time. The tablet would be much better for someone who doesn't draw full time, as charging the pen can get in the way of your workflow. The pen charging cable is really short, not ideal to work with, although I only ever have to charge for a couple hours every 3 months or so (take note: I only draw for a couple hours a day, at best. You might be charging it more often if you draw for longer periods of time.) It's the perfect tablet for someone who doesn't depend on constant drawing as a source of income and who also knows their way around computers.

Neat! I've been using a Bamboo Fun tablet like that as well (though mine came in black). It seemed to be the stock starter tablet for the 2000s. I'm currently finishing up high school and prepping for college so I don't have the time to do digital sculpting or drawing so I don't need to upgrade right away but thanks for showing me a possible upgrade path other than Wacom or Monoprice. I might just go the interactive display route as well so I might take a look at Huion's selection in that category. Regardless, cheers!

How do you know where to draw on a screenless tablet without tapping it with the pen and drawing an I wanted line/dot to figure out where the drawings on the computer is? Do you press a button to 'click'?

I think I might get this. I already have this other Wacom tablet(doesn’t have a screen) but it’s really bleh not good and it’s very small. I’ve done great work with it and I love it but It’s had some “problems....” its also has been discontinued like a while while ago before I bought it. I forgot what it’s called. (It’s not the bamboo one it’s a different one) I only use fire alpaca (I’m no pro lol)

I've been using it for a year now and I still can't figure out how to connect it wirelessly. I can't find any information if the connection is via bluetooth or wifi and everyone just assumes it's a piece of cake. I haven't tried that one, but it's smaller with fewer buttons at a lower price. If you need a smaller size for travelling, have less money, or naturally draw tiny, probably the H610.

I unfortunately have had a bad experience with Huion, It worked fine at first, then just quit functioning properly. For some strange reason the driver would refuse to work with my computer ( I use Windows ) No matter which version of driver I used, I would hit the problem of The driver causing the tablet to not operate ( wouldn't draw at all ) I would have to run the tablet without the driver, but this causes me to lose all the desired functions and hot keys. And the Tablet had a terrible lag too ( Tablet would not register the pen until a sec later causing a straight line, then what your drawing ) ( couldnt find a solution ) I tried everything I could think of, including help directly from Huion support. Still doesnt work, so I gave up, and got my original tablet repaired. Dont know if i will give it a try again or not. ( Too late to ship it back )
