That was a crazy tournament. At one point in the AM, you had lost more fish than you had landed. One trick I learned a while ago....if the bass comes up and just "bumps" the frog (like knocks it out of the water) but doesn't eat it, it's like they are trying to stun it first (so that it can't get away). On those bites, I follow up immediately with a texas rig worm. Those bass will "stun" their prey and then come right back to see if that prey is just floating down through the hole they just made in the mat. And, because they are in "hunt and eat" mode (they just stunned some prey), they will hit something that falls down through the mat in the same spot. I've caught like 60% of those bass that miss the frog the first time, doing that trick. Just a thought. Great vid, as always. Thanks for posting!
@warecccc4 жыл бұрын
Same!! I always have a follow up bait ready when they miss the frog and more than half the time they eat it!
@spankyLou4 жыл бұрын
I remember Greg use to do this in the Delta. Frog followed by wacky rig Senko.
@crashbomber4 жыл бұрын
Also, follow up bites are the coolest .
@SuperVehicle0024 жыл бұрын
I saw him swap to a senko but he didn't have it on deck. He needs to have his follow up baits on deck ready to drop the frog rod immediately and cast out where the bass missed the bait. Follow up baits have to be quick, swapping between rod holders is too slow.
@timisoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'll also swap from a frog to a popper if it isn't too saturated with grass.

For what it's worth my family has been fishing Clear Lake since the early 1960s and we have learned that to be successful catching bass with top water lures like the rubber frog 2 things come to mind. #1 is don't try to set the hook when they boil up on the frog, they are slapping at the frog to stun it they will come back to it if you leave it be then 1 twitch and biom, they will enhale it. 2nd is laser sharp hooks, you catch a ton of hydryllia but it will save your butt. Honestly we have used an old fashion Torpedo, medium size. A gentle , slow but erratic retrieve, pole tip side to side then down and all stop, let the ripples settle twitch it once then hold on my friend. Your a great fisherman but I thought I would pass along a little local knowledge if you want to try it. Good luck and good fishing. Good job on your content too by the way.

Most tournaments don’t allow motors, nice to see them allowed here. I’m trying to rig up a motor (like the NK 180) using the Native’s existing steering and rudder system rather than put in foot pedals or use a tiller. It looks like Greg’s Torqeedo has a similar steering system using the native’s rudder to steer.
