This is a detail lost in later Hulk movies and is why this movie, a character study of the Hulk is the superior movie format for his character IMO.

I think the people behind this movie, Ang Lee in particular really resonated with the tragedy that is Bruce Banner and it shows on screen with the emotional scenes. Even the weird blob fight at the end has excellent symbolism regarding the trauma Bruce faced. Totally underrated!

Also before you say it, Professor Hulk was a thing in the comics as well and I've read one of the reasons why there hasn't been any other storylines from the Hulk's Comics adapted is because they're pretty weird. Ever heard of the Hulk and the circus of crime? It's about an evil ringmaster who hypnotizes the Hulk into joining the circus where he juggles elephants. That can't be adapted.

Fought hulk buster, something built especially to contain the hulk and would've won had he not felt bad about the people and get distracted. Snapped his fingers and was still able to fight in the final battle of endgame. Stopped a leviathan with ease. Went up against a wolf much stronger and larger than the gamma dogs. Almost knocked surtur of his balance. And thanos is much stronger than him which is why he lost. Went up against a smarter and stronger version of him and runs at the same speed as this guy. @Tyler Ba this is not the comics. This is the MCU. Second, Hulk didn't do the thunderclap because the ship would have broken into pieces. The ship was already half broken and his thunderclap would have made situations worse. And thanos is stronger than hulk by far. Thanos was able to take Captain America, Thor and Iron Man all at once and still beat them with almost no struggle. Off course hulk stood no chance. First learn then talk.

i think it's because the kids you would never hear from when the movie first came out or years after are now expressing their opinion that carries on from when they were children. like me. i've always loved this movie. didn't know it was so poorly reviewed until last year and was shocked at the general critic response. i can't imagine those people have changed their minds. but as people my age have gotten older, movies like this and the star wars prequels and other movies are being seen as favorable or less hated as much as they were back then because now social media is seeing a wave of opinions that were silent for decades.

This is for me the best transformation for the Hulk. Bruce laments in this movie about the power and freedom he has as Hulk, and the Hulk here isn't a mindless beast hellbent on causing destruction. Bruce has a sort of morbid curiosity with his other half, it's a part of himself that's been locked away and he wants to know more about it. He isn't scared of the Hulk because it is literally is him, the 4 year old version of himself. The movie is a really fascinating look at Hulk, it gets kind of boring when for an hour you've got Bruce being afraid of the Hulk. It works in the comics but not in a feature length film.

CGI is 20 years old and still works. It's not the not "photo real" CGI out there, but so many people ignorantly think that CGI is only good if it meets some nebulous standard of "looking real." How real is a man rapidly turning into a bright green monster supposed to look? Like any other tool in filmmaking, clarity in vision and execution of CGI is what sells it. Sure, the CGI lions in the Lion King remake look pretty damn real. But can you sit here and tell me that it"s "good CGI" in any other way? The realism of the CGI just makes the film oddly hollow and off-putting because it's too concerned with the realism of the animals instead of bending reality to explore the emotionality of the story. This scene is directed and executed with style and personality - the way the camera is locked on Bruce as he starts to turn and how it jitters and shakes with his rage, the way it quick-zooms in as he goes full Hulk...it's good stuff. And the decision to keep Hulk a bit more plump and fleshy helps the CGI age better. You still see wrinkles, pores, etc but it's not so hyper-detailed as to break emersion. The Hulk in TIH 2008 is just a bad design by comparison and the CGI is on a much lower level. He's too thin, too wiry - all muscle. He's has so much muscle at times he doesn't even look anatomically consistent. His arms look like veiny hard meat tubes instead of arms, lol.
