I love how well black widow is rendered in this scene. I love how much is exposition is accomplished in this scene without having to sink into unnecessary off-screen narrative or derivative dialogue: Black Widow's combat intelligence but also her humanity are shown in her abject fear of the Hulk, Hulk's power (which is further demonstrating by pitting him against Thor, the character who had been the strongest Avenger until that moment) and the degree of rage that is pent up in him, Thor's heroism, the power of Thor's hammer, Thor's viking-like thirst for battle... Avengers was never a ground-breaking film, but it's an absolute master class in how film story-telling can be done right.

Edit: Everyone saying that "hULk IsN't bAnNEr" missed the point I was trying to make. That point being Thor is a much better person in this movie than he was at the beginning of his own. Thor had no idea that Hulk and Bruce were two different people, he was just trying to calm him down. This is Thor's first encounter with Hulk in the mcu. Imagine being him in this scene. He's probably fought hundreds of monsters at this point with a lot of them being many times his size. I love Thor's reaction when he first sees the Hulk. He is a God among mortals and is sure to remind us throughout the movie until this point. His surprise and apprehension in this scene makes such an impact and really builds a sense of fear in the audience. Marvel at its best.
