Hello and Welcome to ALW Research Team.
This is the route of the former Hull and Barnsley Railway, in Episode 3 we are starting at Riplingham Road.
The rail bridge still exists here today and is a reminder of the railways past. The cast iron fall pipes have been removed from the parapets, leaving a recess in the brickwork.
We met a fellow youtuber here called Joe, link to his channel in the description box. Joe is local to this area and he recalls the chalk cuttings before they were filled in.
Two accommodation bridges spanned this former 83 feet deep cutting into the local chalk at Little Weighton. Now levelled with landfill, the track bed below is entombed forever more.
The area we are in now is a former Limestone quarry with three goods railway sidings
Little Weighton lost its passenger services in 1955.
The railway continued for freight services until 1959 when the line was officially closed.
It didn’t take long before track lifting commenced.
The demolition of signal boxes, plate layers huts and accommodation bridges also take place without consideration of preservation or potential future use.
Little is left other than the grand station buildings dotted along the line.
Please Subscribe and Share.
The next instalment of this series will feature the Drewton Railway Tunnel, at a length of 1 mile 354 yards or 1.933 km, this feature packed tunnel episode should not be missed.
Thank you so much for watching. Bye bye.

I used to live in Skidby during the 1970s and early 1980s, we used to go for bike rides down there and can remember how deep those cuttings were, at the time there was a quarry at little weighton and used to hide from the stoneledge trucks serving it. I honestly can't believe the difference with it filled in. Thanks for taking the time to investigate this old line, I live in Scotland now and very rarely visit my home town of Hull. Brings back happy memories of my childhood.

When we cycled to Little Weighton station through the deep chalk cuttings on a Saturday in the early 70's we got the impression that road trucks passed along this route on the week days. Perhaps that explains the bridge scratches.

I love the history of this old line, I biked the line from Westfield Road to little weighton about 10 years back, just about where the accommodation bridge was, it widened out and there looked to have been a siding there as it was very wide and someone was storing a big digger/loading shovel down there, kind of freaked me out as it was early morning on a Sunday in winter and I was on my own, should have taken a load of pictures but alas I didn't, and the landfill was only just outside of little weighton back then, with hindsight I should have gone back! Also as an aside I was parked under the riplingham road bridge your video starts from, in a pea truck in the early morning a few months back, had to go for a look up on the old bridge too!

Nice video :) . very windy when at the more middle of knowhere bit at start. windy. Keen if drone that day!. Bathroom I would not want to use in the little breeze block building. I found the station at Watlington by the now all knackered 2 buildings, house size, not big. did that end of August. did video. Got a railway playlist. Just added an Abingdon video I did not stick back on KZbin version 2, did just now. Thought the line path show, it did not, your one good. sometimes obvious railway line. Abingdon cycletrack/ footpath now not so much. still old bits of fence as the edge marker, metal work, the 5 foot high concrete posts, those still there if look.
