Thanks for the video. I would love to see a more indepth field test of this mini hatchet if you were still thinking of doing one. I haven't seen anything else on KZbin that shows it in action. I am very interested in seeing how it performs as a carving axe and what limitations it may have if any and also how it performs for other tasks

Thanks Khalo, I'll try and get something up. I'm not really uploading videos at this time, but next time I take it out I will try and capture some in field footage for you. It really lends itself to crafting type work, but is useful for campfire prep when wood is processed into smaller sizes. Oh...and it is a stunning looking well built tool.

Greetings from the Yorkshire outpost in BC Canada. The hatchet is of adequate weight for crafting utensils. I have the Hultafors Classic Bushcraft Axe, it is sharp and like this Agelsjon Mini Hatchet, the short convex grind-line should work well with carving. The nearest thing I have to this is a Heimo Roselli Axe, longer shaft but similar weight. The Roselli is, as you may know, very convexed in profile. Other than that, the only hatchet I have is the True Temper Tomahawk (probably 45-50 years old). It is called tomahawk, but is a hatchet. I have just re-worked the edge and I might try carving with it. Nice job with the Beech Spoon!

Greetings Woodsman Spirit. I love the visual of a small "Yorkshire outpost" in the middle of BC, brilliant. I'll get out and do some field testing on camera for those interested. I'd be keen to see the hatchets you mentioned. Thanks Again.

Happy New year to you and your good lady Chris. Apols for the huge delay, I've been incognito from the internet for a while, recently moved house which is time consuming. I hope you are well and had great festive period. I have a lovely little surprise to upload soon, something I am certain you will appreciate. Hope to film and upload it soon. Until then stay safe old boy.

@@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 Hello, I hope your move went well, I know how chaotic it can be :) In November we were asked to 'house sit' for for a friend of mine and his wife while they spend the winter in Mexico. So we are currently in Kamloops City. Shirley stays there all the time, it is convenient as it is only 5 minutes away from our office downtown. I spend a day or two every week up at our trailer in the bush. I was up there yesterday and there was a lot of fresh snow, I am very pleased about this because it has been a disturbingly mild winter so far. Unfortunately my tractor with snow plough has been out of commission for some time to I reverted to using my Quad/ATV with a 5 foot blade on it. I spent about 3 hours ploughing and got a bit over exuberant with it and hit a few rocks that almost pitched me over the handlebars! Anyway, shortly after dark I had the drive and parking spots cleared. I managed to shoot some footage for KZbin yesterday as well...so will get that up shortly. I am in the office today and have heard that the forecast calls for two days of snow before the weekend, so I will head out on Friday and stay over, maybe do some more filming. I look forward to seeing your next KZbin offerings. Take care for now, Chris, WS.

ågelsjön means "the ågel lake" ågel doesnt really mean anything in swedish its just a name. its pronounced something like this: the o in "lord" the gel in "bagel" and the closest i can think of that sounds like "sjön" in english would be "shun"

Hey boss, did you stain the handle? I see some youtuber’s with a lighter colour handle, thanks.

Hi @anonymous Soumynona, on the video I think it had a couple of coats of linseed oil. But I think I got lucky with the handle material, it's just a gorgeous dark hickory, quite unique.

Hello thank you for the video. I just purchased the mini i need it for carving , I'm not sure if I made a mistake and should have purchased the bigger one . I wonder what do you think . I need it only for carving. Thank you

I use the mini for some light carving, it is limited to be honest. I think some good alternatives to consider are:- Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet (this also gives you a pack axe for hiking). Prandi Harchet 600g head. Has a nice wide bit. Gransfors Bruk large Swedish Carving Axe. Expensive though, and probably more for the serious carver. Beavercraft Compact Axe. I don't know much about this, but it looks similar to the GB Wildlife hatchet. Njord Malin small camp Axe. More of a general hatchet, but looks capable for carving. I'm afraid I'm not highly experienced with carving to offer good advice, but have a look around the Internet and see if you can find somebody who knows better than me. Good Luck 👍🏻 Stay safe

please tell me what is the length of the cutting edge?
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 3 жыл бұрын
@cafeqc it's a 2.5 inch straight measurement or about 2 5/8ths actual cutting edge along the curve. Very good crafting size, and excellent for smaller camp chores. Good luck, stay safe.

Imo the Hultafors is better then the Granfors. I would even take Husqvarna over Gransfors. That's when Hults were crafting them. I can't say anything about the new Husqvarnas.
