Imo the Hultafors is better then the Granfors. I would even take Husqvarna over Gransfors. That's when Hults were crafting them. I can't say anything about the new Husqvarnas.

I use the mini for some light carving, it is limited to be honest. I think some good alternatives to consider are:- Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet (this also gives you a pack axe for hiking). Prandi Harchet 600g head. Has a nice wide bit. Gransfors Bruk large Swedish Carving Axe. Expensive though, and probably more for the serious carver. Beavercraft Compact Axe. I don't know much about this, but it looks similar to the GB Wildlife hatchet. Njord Malin small camp Axe. More of a general hatchet, but looks capable for carving. I'm afraid I'm not highly experienced with carving to offer good advice, but have a look around the Internet and see if you can find somebody who knows better than me. Good Luck 👍🏻 Stay safe

@adventureoutdoorsuk9271
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 Жыл бұрын
Jonny, 100% a four season tent. We camped in -3°c recently and with the stove running it was well into double digits inside. If the stove goes out it gets cold though!!! Just be mindful that canvas tents require care and maintenance, they need to be stored bone dry and should be kept clean to avoid the material rotting. Periodically (depending on use) you will need to use a reproofing agent such as fabsil or similar. If erected properly, a bell tent is super sturdy and will stand up to high winds. If the material is taught, rain and snow will shed fairly well. In short, yes this is a 4 season tent. Given the bulk, I suspect most families would primarily use these in the 'camping season' though.

Lars Falt knife has an issue that keeps it from performing as a bushcraft knife should and that's it's thicker blade, which in combintaion with a scandi, more than 3mm is a "no no" The best bushcraft knives out there is the Skookum and it's slightly improved version made from Rob Evans. Now, if I could have a Mora Bushcraft Black, made with ballbearing steel at 60 hrc and instead of rubber, it came with matte finsih canvas Micarta handle, then I would be the happiest camper!! It's the handle desgin on that knife, that it adds so much better performance on some bushcraft tasks, that I've never seen on any other knife! What's your favorite knives?
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 2 жыл бұрын
To each their own. I've put a lot of time on the Casstrom now and as an all round camp knife I've found it to be exceptional. The thicker stock doesn't cause any major issues in my oppinion. I'm currently using the Garberg in Carbon Steel and it has blown me away with how comfortable and versatile it is. The bushcraft black has a slightly better blade profile for me personally and I love that little blade so much. I have been tempted by the SBT, it looks fantastic. Maybe one day I'll pick one up. Stay safe.

@@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 I don't speak from my personal point of view, or taste on knives. Scandi edges work until 3mm thick stock blade. No matter what profile a thicker scandi blade has, can not perform properly. That's why Morakniv's thickest is 3mm and that's a main reason,they are considered the BEST bushcraft knives. That's why Skookum, Rob Evans version too, All LT Wright knives, Adventure Sworn, Enzo Trapper and so many oher Bushcraft knives, that are considered the BEST bushcraft knives, ALL have maximum 3mm stock blade for some reason. Scandi blades maintain their thickness, until the start of the very edge, which makes them the worst slicer of any kind of grind. That being said, that's only one of the MANY reasons and don't even the most important, that scandis work only with maximum 3mm.
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 2 жыл бұрын
@@greekveteran2715 I agree that thicker stock and scandi profiles are not optimal. The Casstrom works exceptionally well at most camp tasks, mine has a 3.2mm spine. Have you tried the knife yourself? You'll be surprised 😮 I think you have to look at the design remit of such a blade and also consider what is "Bushcraft" beyond an umbrella term so commonly used. The Lars Fält knife is a wilderness survival knife born from the Northern Boreal regions of Scandinavia and designed for the kind of tasks it's namesake would expect it to accomplish. Lars Fält designed a belt knife capable of the kind of survival and wilderness living skills he taught in the Northern regions. I reckon this knife suits its intended purpose fairly well. With all that being said, the Internet has produced many 'experts' on the subject of knife anatomy. The reality is, all knives have pros and cons, but a good all rounder is all you need on your belt. The best thing about knives varying so much is that enthusiasts have a reason or excuse to buy and try lots of knives. Truth is we only really need one good blade 👍🏻 Stay Safe my friend and happy adventures

Full tang has zero to do whether the knife will break while batoning. It only concerns the possibility of the handle slipping off while in use. Old school traditional is a partial insertion and gluing a handle to a partial tang. Old school glues not a lifetime job; it will need a repair. Modern epoxies can be a lifetime job if done correctly. Next is the full length “rat tail” tang which pokes out the back of the handle and is peened or threaded/ bolted. As to the longevity and ability to take abuse, I submit exibit A: the Kabar Fighting Knife of WW2. Nuff sed… “Full tang”: the steel runs from tip to pomel with 2 slabs of material or cordage to fatten and comfy up the handle. When done wrong, these slabs will fall off the knife or become loose resultant of the shock caused by batoning (Aint physics fun). Now we get to the important part: a broken knife typically breaks at the BLADE, which is a result of abuse and/or poor tempering of the blade. A hard edge keeps its edge but if you dont have a softer spine the metal cannot handle the vibrations caused by batoning and thus you get a broken knife. I hope this clears things up a bit, please stop spreading the falsities of tang types. Please cjoose to walk in the light of knowledge
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271
@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 2 жыл бұрын
I really don't know what your point is??? I think it's a widely accepted fact that full tang knives are generally much stronger and are at less risk of breaking along the tang. This has nothing to do with edge strength and nor did I suggest so at any point. I simply referenced that I wanted a full tang knife for its sturdier nature, I'm sorry if you've misunderstood my comment in that regard.

Sorry about that blade glad ya got a replacement...ive been through that pain before. Zero degree scani grinds have one purpose whittling ....I had this happen with two knives over my many years of using scandi blades . One was the Condor bushlore that knife was so soft you could not keep an edge without a micro convex on it. The other looked just like your outcome here and that was Real Steels new Bushcraft Plus scandi edition. The real steel was 14C27N german steel which ive had excellent experience with on the Garberg but the real steel dented and warped cause the relief edge is just to thin . The only reason the Garberg doesnt do the same is because its grotesquely thick edge, why its so loved is a puzzle to me. I love Mora esp their Bushcraft Black and their Heavy Duty blades they have never failed me but the Garberg design is flawed. I've since become more of a full flat grind user but i do love a well made scandi for carving. I recently purchased a TOPS Brakimo and have become a true fan. The handle is thin its no "bushcraft comfy grip" that said after using it for 10 months now I'm sold on the design. The knife just works for the woods, its tough yet still detailed enough to carve and notch out wood and it feathers better than any knife I have had so far. I love my bushcraft blades I make my own mods from Brisa Enzo blanks and have made many puukko blades from old knives. I never thought I'd put the Brakimo on my list of best knives but imo I think its one of the best survival /campcrafting woods knives on the market. I do have my eye on the Brisa Nessmuk knife though 😍 That and the Tops Dragonfly which is a combo of the Brakimo and Nessmuk design...Kind of a hidden gem in the U.S knife market which has a great price point too.

Good choice, you'll have many years of joy I'm sure. OK so the ropes comes pre-strung to the sliders at the peg end. To attach them to the tent I first put in a standard overhand knot (I think about 10inches from the end) Then run the line through the canvas loop, tie it of with a half hitch on the peg side of your stop knot. This will keep the knots away from your canvas. The benefit is it puts less stress on the fabric and stops water from soaking in. If none of this makes sense, drop me a message and I can upload a quick tutorial for you. Good luck, stay safe.

Hi just looking for some advice. We are looking between the company you used and boutique camping. Can’t decide whether to get a polycotton or canvas bell tent and not sure which company to go for when we do decide. Any advice appreciated👍

Good evening, so firstly we bought from Bell Tent Boutique and I can vouch for them and this product. Buying a bell tent is a long term investment, maybe something you'll hand down to the kids. Take your time to research carefully and don't skimp on a 'similar' tent just to save a few quid. We have a canvas tent, they do take a little extra care and upkeep, but nothing challenging. I chose the heavier weight 360gsm canvas which should have a better service life and be more robust. Polly-cotton has the benefit of being slightly more wear resistant, but still requires care and attention and cannot be put away wet. Both materials can be waterproofed in the same method (personally I recommend fabsil by grangers), however I simply don't know what would would determine which material you use. I love the canvas material of our tent and I'm glad we chose the heavier 360gsm fabric. I don't know much about Boutique Camping, we looked at them when researching what to buy, I preferred the options Bell Tent Boutique offered and we bought in a sale so got a good deal. Good luck with your purchase, take your time and hopefully it will be safe to get out camping soon. Stay safe

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I’ve been looking online again this evening and come across something called Oxford Canvas from boutique camping. Have you heard much about it? There are so many options I’m finding it a bit overwhelming🙈.

Sorry anther question🙈 How often do you have to clean or weatherproof the tent?

@@OmegaVR1 that all depends on how often you use it and what contamination lands on it. Bird droppings and tree sap will be your enemy. Dry brushing is the best way to keep on top of dirt and debris and spot clean heavy stains with a canvas friendly cleaner or just warm water and a soft brush. Waterproofing probably once every couple of years if you use the tent 5 or 6 times a year. Annually if you use it more or its had some real heavy weather. You'll kind of notice when canvas starts to give up it's water repellent properties. If you're not confident cleaning or waterproofing you can always send it off, personally I think it's better to learn yourself. There are loads of good videos on You Tube to help you along.

Ranger Bill - yes it's held up a dream and worked out to be a real workhorse, all round blade. Definitely more of a camp knife for your camp utility uses. It strops pretty quickly to a really keen edge which I like, the edge retention is actually surprisingly good for a mid range steel. I've taken it to the stone once and sharpening was easy enough. I have looked after the knife and sheath, as result they are both still in excellent condition. If you are after a larger bush blade you will enjoy this woodlore style knife.

ågelsjön means "the ågel lake" ågel doesnt really mean anything in swedish its just a name. its pronounced something like this: the o in "lord" the gel in "bagel" and the closest i can think of that sounds like "sjön" in english would be "shun"

while doing your research,did you come across any video's saying,don't buy this tent if you are a lazy git,because there is a lot of work involved in keeping these tents in good condition,especially when drying them out before storing away,nice tent,nice video
