I think Amanda made a few necessary changes to make it more 'cinematic'. The longer pauses and extra shaking is for the tension. Movies are always a bit exaggerated, and they need to be. Otherwise, it might as well be a documentary. I'm sure Amanda was instructed to be a bit more dramatic, and she did a phenomenal job.
@saving_graciela92032 жыл бұрын
Also, I think the reason why Amanda didn't copy everything about Elizabeth's behavior, is because it would look cringy and carricature-ish. That's why actors make changes and don't copy the person they are portraying too much

The difference between Holmes and Seyfried's portrayal is by the time The Dropout aired we were all in on the "gag" as it were. Playing Holmes strictly as herself would have actually made for a dull series, Amanda injected enough knowing into her portrayal to keep it grounded in reality but with that knowing wink to the audience that says "we all know how this ends, right?" Seyfried was just phenomenal in this role. I actually felt a little sorry for Holmes.

Amanda Seyfried nods and shakes her head too much. Holmes is very steady compared to Seyfried. My guess is that Seyfried might be doing this to make Holmes appear as though she is always searching for the answer. Elizabeth does shake somewhat during the Bill Clinton interview and the white-background promo at the end, so it's not out of nowhere. But Elizabeth's shaking comes across as nervousness. Amanda exaggerates it a lot, and I agree she's doing it to reasons you said. It's funny you mentioned Rain Man, as I have a theory that Elizabeth has high functioning autism (formerly aspergers). It came across in the Charlie Rose interview the most...the way Elizabeth looks down like that and talks in such a deliberate way. That's not her searching for answers/lies like Amanda's portraying...that's her actually trying to recall what she wants to say and kind of force the words to come out. Why didn't they instruct Amanda to lower her voice? That is the most distinct quality of EH.

i think she actually was. in the last scene of the show when she's getting into the taxi, she speaks with a normally pitched voice, showing that she was lowering her voice the whole time.

She did a pretty good job of getting HER voice to go lower. To sound like Holmes exactly would have been hard for most people.

I'm only able to base my opinion on the small amount of comparison shown, however, it appears that neither a body language expert nor a linguist were on set. Elizabeth used a very exaggerated and poorly executed deep voice when she spoke as well as unnatural, fabricated facial expressions. Such as extended durations without blinking and limited facial movement. These were all a part of her manipulation and attempt to control her environment. Although these idiosyncrasies often naturally occur in people with antisocial personality disorders, like her idol Steve Jobs, hers were rehearsed. I wish Amanda would have done a better job of focusing on these mannerisms. It would have made her portrayal much more believable. * Sorry for the novel I wrote and thank you to those who read it in its entirety. I spared you the analysis of her body language, in part because I couldn't get enough detail from the short amount of video shown.

Amanda did a great job with lowering her voice all the way to the underbite, very impressive acting

Amanda replaced Kate McKinnon after Kate dropped out last minute, and I keep thinking about how Kate would have mastered the role. Amanda is a good actress but she does not have the look and can't master the voice. Kate's facial features are more similar to Elizabeth's and she has a naturally low voice

Honestly this Elizabeth person looks like someone with zero credibility. I mean it's literally there on her face, in her mannerisms. Right there. So when someone says that they don't like a particular person because of how they look and talk, it doesn't always mean that they are being judgemental or mean. It sometimes means that they can just see through the garb.

It shows how morally bankrupt our society is when kind people with self-doubt often end up homeless, and mentally ill psychopaths and people who care only about themselves end up at the top of our society. The Greeks knew about this problem but sadly in over 2000 years we have yet to find a way to manage it

I read most of Carreyrou's book and watched The Dropout and think that both Elizabeth and Sunni were painted in a far kinder light in The Dropout than either of them were worthy of. I believe I had a narrow escape with Theranos - back in 2012 I was working for a company that was going to be contracted for a British subsidiary of Walgreens who were opening diagnostics sections in their stores, I had to sign an NDA but never discovered the company I was going to be working for. I believe it was Theranos and the contract never came to fruition.
