What about the outer and inner pleural membranes. I don’t understand why the inner pleural membrane moves outwards in inspiration.
@MissEstruchBiology4 жыл бұрын
Hello 😊 Everything moves outwards during inspiration to create a larger volume in the thorax and therefore a lower pressure so that air rushes in.

Which cartilages are in the respiratory tract
@short4rm3 жыл бұрын
at 6:24 in the bottom row, it says that air moves into the lungs and into lower pressure but then the column to the right says out of the lungs and from higher pressure. So do the lungs have a higher pressure than the atmosphere or vise versa?
@MissEstruchBiology3 жыл бұрын
Hello, The pressure changes depending on the volume of the lungs (which changed as you inhale and exhale). The pressure is higher in than lungs compared to atmospheric when the rib cage moves in and up, but the pressure is lower in the lungs compared to the atmospheric pressure when the rib cage moves out and down.

Miss help me on explaining the difference in the amounts of gases breathed in and out Thus to say nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen and vapour
@MissEstruchBiology Жыл бұрын
nitrogen won't change as it doesn't diffuse into the blood. Carbon dioxide would increase as it diffuses out of the blood into the alveoli. Oxygen would decrease as it diffuses into the blood

Hey, I was wondering why ciliated epithelial cells have large quantities of mitocondria.
@MissEstruchBiology4 жыл бұрын
The ciliated cell projections sway to help move mucus up and out of the lungs. This movement requires energy in the form of ATP and ATP is made in aerobic respiration in the mitochondria. I hope that helps :D

is this also for CIE a-level biology ?

I'm not familiar with that exam board, but you could check with your specification ( you can get this online) while watching the video to see if it is the same level of detail you need.

Do bronchioles have endothelium?
@MissEstruchBiology4 жыл бұрын
yes. Endolthelium is the term for the layer of cells which line organs in the body.
