Summary: // ESSAY ----Samuel Moyn, American historian The essay talks about the drastic mismatch between the egalitarian crisis and the human rights remedy. An egalitarian crisis refers to a situation where people haven't achieved equal rights, opportunities and freedom. The essay starts with a parable(story) in which the writer has written about an ancient king, Croesus. He was a happy and rich man who wanted his civilians to be happy as well but didn't take the effort to distribute his property to no one. He lost everything after he got defeated by the Persian army. The writer likens this story to the current world where inequality is found abundantly but resources are never distributed equally. According to the writer, 10th December, human rights day, is nothing but a mere irony since its goals are not practical in the real world. In his opinion, to claim that everyone in this world has equal rights and freedom is only an illusion. The rich get richer and richer while the poor get poorer and poorer.
