Thank You so much for this video, he looked so happy and relaxed! I must say, I've just been watching some other horse care videos and have only just learnt what 'pulling' is - I've seen it written all over the place, I did think it looked a little unnecessary and old-fashioned in a way, as if it's come about from just being out in the field to tend the horses without any scissors to hand, so that was done instead?? We know that Horses are very sensitive despite their size and if a more comfortable way for them can be found I see no good reason not to update and use that method instead? - I think this looks so much better Thank You.

I have a miniature horse who's mane is super super think! it's like an afro and it doesn't want to lay one way. so I will try this and see how it turns out. maybe I'll make a video for the mini horses! thank you for the video!

That is a Welsh Sec A. We have one and he has a thick mane, so if it was shortened but not pulled you would end up with ridiculously fat plaits if you wanted to plait up. Generally cold blooded native breeds have thicker manes.

Chelsey L well the reason people pull manes rather then cutting them is that they're thick and stick up so she's inning so it doesn't stick up and it won't hurt him I think its pretty smart and she isn't suggesting you need to thin it first either

I cannot bear to have my hair pulled, so understand why horses hate it. But I have pulled manes the trad way...but do a little at a time, never a huge attack at once. TB manes are easy to pull as not much to start with :) I once cut my pony's mane with scissors before a gymkhana....never did that again :)

Some horses (particularly miniature horses and ponies) can have such heavy and thick manes it can literally break their crest.

Nikki B. Yep. For most shows you need to braid your horses mane, and that means cutting the mane and pulling it. Or what you call, "destroying the horses mane" which is not true

+Nikki B. Manes are pulled for shows so that it is easier to braid them into little button braids. Otherwise, the braids end up being far too thick, taking way too long to make, and being very hard to work with.

that was a lot of mane pulled out. I will pass . I couldn't use this or do this to my mare way too much hair pulled out. perhaps it's why your pony's mane is very short.

That's kinda the point...for braids, you want the mane to be between 3-5". That looked about right to me.

Very Good video, but never scissor cut a mane nor tail because then it makes it not always even and the mane or tail wont grow back.

Anya Keays-smith what are talking about? Hair grows back always. Unless your horse has some kind of condition.

Well, my horse does not have a condition thank you. And his mane doesnt grow back when we scisor cut it, it's just riggid now and he wont let us pull. Unless his mane is just ment to be short. Sory for upsetting you.

i don't like how u say the humane way. the usual way of thinning s horses mane is pulling it because there nerve endings are not like ours. (i mean if you pulled out your hair it would hurt, but theirs doesn't) i mean i know there are horses that dislike it because its not the fact that its inhumane, its just a weird uncomfortable pull feel. no pain. no humane or inhumane. but that is just me exalaming the fact that i do not like the word inhumane. i would recommend this product. there are many other ways to pull. none inhumane
