Having just finished reading the book series, I should give my opinion on the fairytales. I think that they are one of the best parts in the book, not only because they are a book inside another book, but also due to their metaphors. When I was reading the stories, I theorized about the possible meanings and symbolisms that were hidden in the lines. Eventually, the true meaning unraveled and it turns out that I was pretty close to it. On a different topic, I think that Quinn didn't mention the fact that princess Teardrop was also bemused and intrigued by the outer world, which played a big role in her decision to explore it. I think that Tianming was also trying to encourage humanity to leave the solar system and explore the universe by saying this.
@blackcrow63072 ай бұрын
I believe the metaphor of Needle Eye being trapped in his own painting is showcased by the interaction between Singer and the Elder, and the ultimate effect of the dual-vector foil. We find out later that space will keep flattening to two-dimensions forever once it is used, and the weapon will inevitably catch up to the species which deploys it.

@@Sajuek It's been implied that there have been countless dimension strikes across the universe iirc. Fair point on the expansion, but unless I missed something, I feel like if expansion would've kept dimensions from fully collapsing it retcons the idea that species "downgrade" to lower dimensions to avoid such a collapse.
@SajuekАй бұрын
@@notoriouspc It is a minor plot hole, from a physics perspective. The speed of light is also the speed of relativity. If two points are moving away from one another faster than the speed of light, as very far objects in the universe are, then nothing that effects one of them, including a dimensional collapse that expands at the speed of light, can effect the other. Unless dimension strikes were so ubiquitous that nowhere within the universe was out of range then you should be able to outrun dimensional collapse with a curvature drive.
@xenn498515 күн бұрын

The dimensional collapse is not absolute, as evidenced by the remaining 4D fragments. So perhaps they have countermeasures in place so that their homeworld doesn't collapse? Ultimately, at best, it would just trap them in a 3D fragment, but still better than being flattened.

I find it funny how in the show we see how the Trisolaris become afraid of us once they learn through the stories we told them how deceitful we can be and how they are a mirror into what makes us human, and yet they allow Tianming to tell those stories not thinking there could be something hidden in them. I suspect this kind of concept points to something I’ve surmised to be the case for a while now. Namely, that “stories”, whether through literature or traditional inheritance, even if they are technically “fiction” (or perhaps especially if they indeed are) are not always or exclusively a means for “entertainment”, but they are just as much so a method for transmitting concrete and accurate truths about either deep history or cosmic scale functions of reality between generations otherwise separated by vast distances of time. As the actually purported “histories” we are presented with by the presumed controlling parties of our era can, and indeed do regularly corrupt or at least “fiddle” with the records we are given access to, and likewise, even just basic loss of clear line of succession when it comes to information preservation, can all lead to decidedly untrustworthy records of one’s true historical reality. Whereas “imbedding” foundational principles into “tropes” and “archetypes” through a narrative (and thus universally “memorizable”) format allows for far more seamless preservation of said information over the passage of time. Just as long as the future generations in question maintain their skill at discerning or “decoding” the primary “bundle” of information “stock” packaged into the succession of messages transmitted to them (i.e. interpreting metaphor). Think of it as the wider scale temporal equivalent of the ancient practice of smoke signaling. In a way.

I feel like the dragon-skin umbrella was a reference to the black domain technology as one of the options for protection against dimension strikes, what Singer calls “slow fog.” Yun Tianming gives a lot of detail on how it must be spun at a specific speed, and a person must spin it nonstop signifying the energy expenditure necessary to maintain a black domain.
@mrspidey80Ай бұрын
But doesn't Singer chose Trisolaris for cleansing after noticing Slow Fog(only to notice that someone else has beat him to it)? That pretty much confirms that Black Domain is just another indicator of civilization, because a black hole the size of a solar system but not having millions of solar masses, means it has to be artificial.

You know what sucks about the Three-Body Problem story? It’s that if the Trisolarans had just worked with humanity, we could’ve coexisted. Heck, we could’ve probably advanced at a greater pace than we normally would in the story, developed technology to protect ourselves from evil races, and even made a space coalescence with multiple friendly races.

It doesn't suck, it's very brilliant from an economics & sociology POV. Read Prisoner's Dilemma in Game Theory and you'll understand why they couldn't work with humanity, similar to the relationships between colonizers and the colonized, or nations during the Cold War. Cooperation is often a dominated strategy, especially in the face of vast uncertainty.
@smit.shahYT2 ай бұрын
It doesn't Suck, it's a literal metaphor to all wars and subjugations by humans, even humans living on the same planet cannot co-exist and are constantly at war, it's the same as saying if the British hadn't colonized and instead had tried to coexist with Asia and other colonies, that's not the reality though, in the end human kind would have subjugated the trisolarans if they had not acted first. A race which views themselves as superior will always seek to subjugate the one it sees as inferior.
