Our planet is flooded with single use plastics such as plastic bottles. Did you know that globally, we produce about 1 million plastic bottles every minute? What does that number even look like?
This Studio Birthplace production - made with CG partners Method and Madness - makes the invisible story visible, so we can better understand the overwhelming impact we humans have on our planet.
Accompanying the film is an augmented reality app made with Superposition, also titled Humanity’s Impact, in which you can experience the overwhelming data yourself!
Download it for free on the app stores!

We should forbid it. We should carry liquids in our bare hands. Or?

Plastic is very convenient to use, I believe that more should be invested in recycling processes than trying to eliminate plastic, as there is no real substitute for this material. Anyone who has drunk from a cardboard straw will know what I am talking about.

Our grandparents were fine without using plastic for everything, I'm sure we can improve our single use plastic usage (nowhere in the video it says to ban plastic). Also, recycling is not perfect. It takes a ton of resources, energy and pollution to recycle. Of course we can kill the planet and our oceans so you can get drunk using a nicer straw.

@@albertc5813 Sure, our grandparents lived without plastic, air conditioning and many of the conveniences we have today, but I don't think anyone wants to go back to those times. It is clear that we have to take care of the planet, but we need a material that really replaces plastic, that is more recyclable, biodegradable and even cheaper (if that is possible). Until this happens, it will be very difficult for humans to stop using plastic. The straw was just an example, it is a simple object that is very difficult to replace: cardboard? (it falls apart and the texture is horrible), metal?: you have the problem of cleaning which is difficult and unhygienic, bamboo?: same problem as metal apart from the deforestation. If we are not able to replace an object as simple as this how are we going to manage to replace other more complicated objects? Are we going to go with a water bottle (glass, metal...) to the supermarket to refill it? And what about chemicals (bleach, cleaners, etc...) that can even be dangerous to mix if they are not cleaned well, etc... I love the vision of "let's save the planet" but it cannot remain a phrase, solutions must be proposed.

@@cristiandeluxe5738 how can a plastic straw, an item I've spent years without using, be that impossible for you to replace? Can't you drink from a glass or cup? I really can't comprehend. And would be that bad refilling your reusable water container? And regarding water, yes, you can refill from a tap, or purifier. You can do it all over the world, what's the problem losing 3 minutes of your life?

@@albertc5813 They used glass, and glazed pottery. Glass recycling was super fast to catch on because there was a deposit for it, that you got back when you turned them in. you paid 5¢ like a tax, and got 5¢ when you turned it in, or someone took them and turned them in. The issue is there isn't an incentive to take a plastic bottle back. and plastics is a byproduct of oil manufacturing, so it need to be used somehow. we just need better recycling habits! if it's not all make out of plastic, it made out of metal, wood, or glass. even composite material is a polymer ("PLASTIC")
