The mobility of the lips is a very complex thing, perhaps this video of mine will give the start to others. In 15 days I will post a video with a robot head, where I will explain how a humanoid tongue is created with all its mechanical and electronic movements.

I think you need to more push (and additional micro cervos) for the muscles to look like they’re forming Fs and Os, and other letters that the cheek cervos should be pushing forward. The lips should be retracting inwards as well. May I also add the jaw has to retract on certain letters as well.
@alvaropasseri57542 ай бұрын
Inside the head there are 23 micro servos, adding more servos is not possible. I'm designing a new robotic head, I'll see what I can do. Thank you.

Interesting. The McGurk effect demonstrates the interaction of hearing and vision of perceived speech. Visual lip movements tend to override the voice with human faces.

Hi Alvaro, im wondering if you would have a more natural/realistic mouth and facial movement, if you used "motion capture", the motion capture software would track the movement of a real persons face, that data could be sent in real time to the animatronic head which would copy/mimic the expressions, mouth and lip movement of the person being tracked by the motion capture.

So that silicon from the gun actually sticks to the rubber from the cast? I've never had luck with that sticking to other silicon rubber. I tried to patch tears that way but end up mixing more of the same rubber to glue it. I'm learning a lot watching you and I don't touch robots. Lol

This is very interesting and informative. I've seen animatronic and robotics videos but I haven't seen such a clear breakdown of how mouths articulate before. Is your method a standard in these industries? I mean, are there other approaches to mimic human faces that are more or less accurate that are worth exploring? Or is this the pinnacle of animatronic techniques, accounting for all meaningful muscle groups?
@alvaropasseri57542 ай бұрын
I haven't reached the pinnacle of animatronics yet, but it's not far away. I recently built a new tongue with very complex movements, (Enter my KZbin channel and watch the latest video posted). This tongue is able to make the "R" with roll, to make the "TH", the "L" and more. So in September I will make a new video "Mobility of the lips 2)

two things that might make installation of face easier either removable levers you glue to the face before putting it on the head or a standardized clear skin you can stretch over the entire head, that then gets sprayed with adhesive to apply the intended outer skin, this could also help reinforce portions prone to tearing

4:41 "Let's listen" isn't this thing mute? It's just moving the mouth, not actually making sounds by air movement over vocal cords. This is misleading.
@alvaropasseri57543 ай бұрын
In the tutorial I talk about how to move the lips with servo motors based on the letters of the alphabet, and not about reproducing the vibrations of the vocal cords with air which has nothing to do with animatronics and special effects, but concerns science. The next step will be to interact with artificial intelligence.

Thank you for this very cool video. What kind of rubber do you use?
@alvaropasseri57543 ай бұрын
There are various brands of rubber on the market, the important thing is that the rubber must have a shore close to "0", it means as soft as possible, and this is why I reinforce the sides of the mouth with the net, in this way it has a lot of elasticity but the mouth does not tear.

@@alvaropasseri5754 Thank you for the quick reply. I didn't mean the manufacturer, but the type of rubber: do you use silicone? @alvaropasseri57543 ай бұрын
@@DanielSpringwald The type of silicone I use is "MM709" from the English company "CHT" (shore 10). To color I use the translucent cartridge silicone rubber that plumbers use, I put some of it in a glass and dilute it with white spirit, and I color it with oil paints and mix it in with a brush. On the MM709 silicone rubber, the plumber's gun silicone sticks and never comes off, I have never used it on the other rubbers. Later I will make videos covering all the artistic parts; eyes, teeth, shaping a face, coloring, etc.
