The crew is docking with an unfamiliar freighter that may be a robber ship. The captain is directing the crew through the docking and demonstrates a calm leadership style, while Jann leads the boarding team in their exploration. Inside the freighter, they find injured aliens and possible hijackers. Although the aliens show hostility, Jann chooses to treat them with tranquilizers, demonstrating the crew's humanitarianism and professionalism. Finally, Captain DeVoe announces their first encounter with a new race in the galaxy, the Humans.
