Thank you for sharing brother. Even though I am not from Nepal, my culture being Hindu is identical to the way we cremate, allowing the ashes to flow through a body of water (not always the Ganges River) and finally mourning for thirteen days. The thirteenth day representating a day where the spirit of the deceased has peacefully left our world. A very emotionally processing experience my friend, sometimes feeling like a lifetime. Hope this had been culturally immersive for you Mac as much as it has been for your viewers. Much love to you.

That river is called Bagmati which is holier than river Ganga because it flows from the temple pasupatinath.

@@caringmouse5385are you mad bro ? Ganga is the most holiest River In Hinduism 🕉 First bro get some proper knowledge about our Sanatan hindu dharma... Ganga flows from the World Hindu most holiest place haridwar, Ayodya and Vanaras

@@samriddhagautam400 The Ganges next enters the state of Bihar, where its main tributaries from the Himalayan region of Nepal to the north are the Gandak, the Burhi (“Old”) Gandak, the Ghugri, and the Kosi rivers. Bagmati holy river flows from kathmandu to siraha and from siraha to bihar. So,you just can clarify with your half knowledge dude!!!!!! tff

The event you saw in the temple is a daily ritual called 'aarati'. It is performed every evening to honor Lord Shiva, who is housed within the main temple across the river. The timing of your visit could not have been better, as the 'aarati' is one of the major attractions of the day. Also, it is a surreal experience because rarely do we come across a single venue where a sad event like a funeral and a thunderous celebration coexist.
@crustytravels2 жыл бұрын
I got to visit there for part of a funeral/celebration of life in 2014. It was a very spiritual ceremony with tea and hash afterwards with the monks. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face with this adventure, and making me long to return to KTM.

First thing first temple u visited it is a Lord Shiva Temple. The statue that u have in cern hadron collider laboratory is of lord Shiva in Nataraj form doing tandav dance it's Shiva . Pashupatinath is one his form i.e Pashu"meaning animal" patinath"meaning God" so Pashupatinath is God of all animal. So there is a reason why people burn the dead bodies of people following Hindu Religion. Our soul and body are two different entity. When we die our soul has a belonging to enter the body even after we die our soul roams around the body and doesn't want to go to it's afterlife journey. So to ease this process for the soul we burn the bodies of dead people so that soul doesn't have to remain in the state of purgatory and can make it's way toward after life journey easily. Lord Shiva is also called Dev O ka Dev translates as God of all Gods in Hindu religion. 13:37 I Only Four Priest of the temple can touch inside of Shiva Lingam not all Brahmin can touch Shiva Lingam. We have four caste in Hindu Religion Brahmin, Kshatriyas,Vaisyas and the Shudras. Brahmin being the highest caste and Shudras being the lowest caste. Every person who follow Hindu dharma falls in one these group. Brahmins are one who are educated(Educated Person, Engineer, Scientist ) Kshetriya (Army) Vaisays(Businessman) Shudras(Labours). Though one is born in Brahmin Family he can be demoted to Shudras and Shudras born can be promoted to brahmin it's just the division of labour in modern economics. But some Brahmin people misused this thing and some group of people of Shudras caste were always being discriminated and exploited but now in modern time u don't see these discrimination as peope are educated. Also Lord Shiva doesn't have any caste. He is mostly called Adiyogi the first Yogi or Priest he is an allien being who came down on earth and resides in Himalayas Kailash Mountain. Shiva is that gid who doesn't discriminate.

Pasupatinath Temple was built before Mahabharat. The exact date of the temple's construction is uncertain, but the current form of the temple was constructed in 1692 CE. Pasupatinath temple is know as the head of Lord Shiva & the tail part of Lord Shiva lies in Kedarnath. Nepal is also known as the holy land.

Cremation rituals is very interesting - when a person dies - there are only few who touch the dead body - they cleans it and cremate in the banks of river - and throw the ashes in water so as to return the body to the 5 elements - fire, water, air, earth and space or the eternal truth (the ultimate reality). Those who touched the body, take bath and change their cloths and don’t touch anything else … The families of the dead quarantine for 13 days - wear plain white cloths .. eat plain food .. mostly fruits and veggies.. no meat or alcoholic beverages.. mostly drink herbal drinks etc .. do ritual bathing everyday .. priest come to console the families and recite stories that makes them understand death/dying and why it’s okay that people die etc .. on the 13th day, they celebrate and invite families and friends to remember the dead and rejoice the fact that the remaining members of family are still alive … This is all very scientific… back in old days people use to die of diseases .. not of old age .. So, limited people touching dead body to limit spread of contagious diseases .. then clean off … eat plain foods … quarantine for 13 days drinking herbal drinks etc … when they survive 13 days they celebrated… !! That’s exactly what we needed to do when we had the most contagious disease “Covid” and quarantine… !! So, ya … Hinduism is a very practical religion … And there are many schools of thoughts - not everybody who die believe that they go to heaven … the concept of Heaven and Hell is also just one schools of thought … !! It’s mostly about becoming one with the ultimate reality, ultimate truth … !! And that’s not heaven !!! It’s too small a platform to say more … !! Hope you had a nice time in Kathmandu !! Have a safe journey to Pokhara !!

Its unfair being they have to pay twice, first at the entrance for ticket price second to the guide for explanation...i mean the ticket seller should keep their guide to help the tourist on the price inclusive of ticket as well u can charge 500 extra for that... being a nepalese i felt they are overpriced on everything
