Humans of HOKA: Lindsey Shelton

Lindsey Shelton is a travel intensive care unit (ICU) nurse and mental health advocate. Lindsey and her husband both pursued travel nursing to experience other cultures and places but didn’t foresee the physical, mental, and emotional toll that would be required of an ICU nurse in 2020.
Compounded with burnout, the realities of the pandemic exacerbated Lindsey’s anxiety and depression, forcing her to seek out community and focus on her own health. By sharing her experience online, Lindsey built a loyal following on social media. Through comedy, Lindsey shares the realities of nursing while encouraging other healthcare workers to prioritize their own health and find joy in their work.

I’m just throwing this out there. The only dept that should have ZERO travel nurses is the ICU. Imagine your family member being treated by someone who only is there because of the money. Very hard to be empathetic. Especially with continuing care and support from the community. Instead you get a nurse who isn’t invested in the community, isn’t invested in the culture and creates massive social divide between colleagues.
