I love stories of first contact, where communication still needs to be figured out. I also like friendly aliens, because war has been written about again and again and again and it's getting old. War this, war that. It holds no real entertainment anymore. However, intelligent stories about how aliens see us as weird, or new or just plain different, is an endless source of human strangeness and abilities that, when written well, can be very entertaining.
