Decent writing. A little constructive criticism: First - A Commander would not be in charge of something so important an Earth's defense. That would fall to an Admiral or General. Second - The person in charge would not be leaving his command deck to lead an assault/counterattack. His job is to maintain overall control of his forces, coordinate their actions and make tactical decisions as the battle progressed, something he can not do when off on a mission. What would happen to the defense if he were killed or captured? Just a little help with military doctrine to help make your next story better.
