I replaced the harddrive and the unit wouldn't recognise it. The wife said "I told you not to waste money on buying a harddrive and just buy a new freesat". Then I found your video, it's now all good and made me look like I knew what I was doing. Luckily I had some WD electrical contact cleaner in the shed that I'm sure helped with the clean up. Cheers

Thank you, well spotted and why didn't I think of this? Having spent hours looking on Humax forums, the corrosion was obvious when I looked. A quick scrape and a spray and all is well. I'm not sure how the corrosion happened, I bought the box second hand, nothing else inside looks corroded or affected by damp.

Hi, do you have any idea how to fix the power issue on Humax 1010s ? It makes a clicking sound but won’t turn on.

Thanks for sharing this. I have the same problem, like many others. I took a look and sure enough, lots of oxidation or white debris on two of the SATA data pins. I did my best to clean it up with a small screwdriver and cleaned off with IPA, but hasn't brought my HDD back unfortunately. I haven't tried a new cable yet - it was quite difficult to know if the contacts were really clean or not so I think it would also be worth a go when I can find one that will work with the power connector on the board (or make one). Interestingly, this would totally explain a lot of the reported symptoms on this problem. A company in Belfast can reportedly fix these but nobody I can see outside of that is sure exactly how. I wonder if it's this simple or perhaps replacement of the SATA connector or cable if they're too far gone. Other theories are some board component (resistors, capacitors or other) or re-flow of the main chip due to dry joints...so almost anything. With so many people experiencing the same issue in exactly the same way, I tend to believe it must be primarily just one particular issue with the HDR-1000s.

@@eclecticDIY That thought hadn't escaped me, if I can prove that with a couple more attempts to test more thoroughly then I'll definitely report this more widely as it's probably quite a simple thing to do for many people. Humax really should have shared more info on it as I'm fairly sure they must know the problem (there was an exchange offer as I think it was a 'known issue'). Since they're now out of the Freesat game I see no reason for them not to share, but most have not had much luck with their support.

Do you live in damp house as normally connectors do not corrode, as they should be plated in gold?
