If you're getting into soap making, one of the first things you'll need to learn is how to calculate your recipes using a soap calculator. I've used SoapCalc (www.soapcalc.ne...) for years, so here's a quick video walking you though how to plug a recipe into SoapCalc to turn a recipe written in percents into a recipe you can make!
The soap recipe I'm using in this tutorial can be found at www.humblebeean....

Thanks for the help! Most people I watch/read just say 'plug in your recipe' and I'm just like how I don't even know what the hell any of this means. But you really made a lot of sense.

you have no idea how helpful this was. I have been making soap for 10 years and was always scared to use a soap calculator. I thought I would never figure it out. I came across a recipe on a soap forum and started making it and realized they didn't include the lye and water percentage. I had no choice but to figure it out. You have helped me tremendously. thank you.

Young lady, I just fell in love all over again, LOL! Thank you so much for breaking this down so simply. I should have spent this six minutes 5 months ago! I was so frustrated I quit.. well, just pushed it away. Been trying to make a recipe for the last 2 weeks but didn't have a good grasp of the calculators and this just looked, honestly... intimidating. I'm really excited to put this to practice now. Owe you one!

Thank you so much for posting this video, now i really understand what superfat means. Question can i calculate 0% and add 5% extra oils or is this gonna affect my recipe? Hope you can give me an answer, once again thanks o lot.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
You will want to calculate your entire recipe at 5% superfat to ensure you actually get a 5% superfat; simply adding an extra 5% of oils by weight will not result in a 5% superfat unless the oil you add has exactly the same SAP value as the average SAP of all the oils you are calculating the recipe at.

This is such a great video! I wonder. If I wanted to choose the ingredients for medicinal purposes. Would it still work? Does it matter how much of any oil from the list I choose? Could I choose equal quantities. Limits on how creative I want to be? Also I didn’t see the essential oils on the recipe? Many thanks!!

@SalvableRuin 2 жыл бұрын
Why are things so poorly named? "Super Fat" has nothing to do with a special kind of fat, oh no, it means using less lye... So why is it called "super fat"? So 5% less lye = 5% super fat? The fact that it needs to be explained is evidence of how badly named it is. And of the many videos I have watched, you are the first person to explain it clearly. Thank you.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 2 жыл бұрын
I've always assumed the root of the use of "super" in this term was related to/in the same vein as the word "superfluous" (unnecessary, especially through being more than enough), but yeah, it's not a great name! "Superfluous fat" would make more sense, but holy moly that's quite the mouthful!

Thank you! 🙏 Love this video! It's just one thing that I wonder... You get a different sheet of "soap qualities" than I do.. when I click "calculate recipe" nothing changes, other than the numbers for weight of the ingredients and the soap quality numbers, It doesn't show the things you get. The big sheet in the end doesn't show. So I don't know if my soap is to hard or to soft or anything else if that... Why? What am I doing wrong? Is it diffent if you use your phone, tablet or PC? Or do I have to pay for getting that version? Would be grateful for assistance! Loved the video! 💕

Thank you for the video. I have one question. If I'm making 2 kilograms of a batch of oils and want to add 60 Gr fragrance weight, shall I discount this from the 2 kg or add the 60 Gr to the 2 kg. In other words, should the total weight be 2 kg with the fragrance weight? Or should the total weight be 2 kg and 60 Gr all together?

Seems so easy! How would we workout the percentage of our own ingredients ? Does the ratio of the different oils matter ?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
You can just enter the ingredients into the weight column and the calculator does it for you :) And yes, the ratio does matter! Try entering different amounts of different oils and noting how much the numbers for hardness, lather, etc change :) That said, if you're new to soaping I'd recommend using tried-and-true recipes for a while to get a feel for soaping-this one (www.humblebeeandme.com/my-all-in-one-soap-recipe/) is great!

I'm a little confused. If I have a mold that can hold 3 Lb., why does it give me a total of 4.5Lb when I enter the recipe? I know it's including the lye and water but how do I deduct it? Because otherwise it doesn't fit.
