Strange this applies to only the GTI when the GLI, Tiguan, EOS, and CC also have the 2.0 TSI too and many have experienced the weak water pump issue. I just started to notice a slight coolant loss over the last month or so on a 2012 Tiguan with 45k on the odometer I suspect mine is on the way out. Before now, I've never lost coolant before. VW is sometimes hard to figure out.
@rosswienert6 жыл бұрын
Even stranger that it only applies to specific VIN numbers within the GTI's in those model years. Yesterday, I discovered my GTI had no coolant. Despite that it's an issue specific to the GTI, both the local dealership and VW Customer Service refuse to cover it for my VIN. I'm not happy with their service or reliability. I thought I was purchasing something of a higher quality from people who would stand behind their product.
@tim98175 жыл бұрын
It's maddening that there was only a recall for the GTI's. My 2012 GLI just started to belch coolant, but I'm at 105K, so I can't complain too much, compared to other people having to replace theirs 3x

I have ‘13 mk6 GTI. Bought brand new and has been really solid, apart from 1 Carbon cleaning and intake manifold which was replaced under warranty. Last year, after warranty I had an oil leak which my independent shop found it was coming from that seal on the WP you were talking about. I had them replace it and also put a new WP in since they were in there. I never received anything from VW about this recall. Should I be compensated for this work?

This recall happened before my time but now at the dealer a little over 2 years now and I always see them fail from the thermostat housing rather than waterpump.
@stockk51283 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's bullshit. Mine is leaking on the water pump on the driver's side. Where it looks like a thermostat is. Not covered under warranty 2017 Cc. Same shit as the gti.

So my waterpump recently started leaking horribly and I looked up my VIN on VW recalls site but it's not saying I require this recall. Any reason for that? It was a used car when I got it back in sep of 2015 so maybe they did it right before selling the car to me?

This part failed on my cdaa tsi 1.8 engine. Really unexpected seeing as it's done only 39k. Got the replacement part (06H-021-010) with the metal pump component. Unfortunately, the gear is slightly bigger in diameter (about 1.5mm) than the old (06H-021-008) and my mechanic is unable to install it. Waited 4weeks for this part and the supplier won't take it back. Is there a tweak you can share to resolve this?
@chuckashton96889 жыл бұрын
Good info to know thanks for sharing. Last week I was at my dealer for my 30,000 mile carefree service & was told that the balance shaft seal was being replaced along with the pump because it is above the water pump & can leak oil onto the pump compromising its seals. Any thoughts on the clock spring airbag issue Charles?
@HumbleMechanic9 жыл бұрын
Chuck Ashton I think it's great for many reasons. I am going to record a show for next week about my thoughts on recalls in general. Some of the things I have to say may not be a popular thing, but it's the truth. There are a TON of cars that will be getting new clock springs. And a lot of customers that will be getting their money back. Also a lot of techs making good pay. WIN WIN WIN !

Volkswagen does reimburse you if your vehicle was recalled. Use their website to check your VIN number to find out. I called VW and my 2012 Gti 2.0 turbo was not eligible. But the lady said my report was documented and if more cases like mine pop up then they'll put out another recall. So guys please call them up and save your receipts.

LOL.. Literally got in the car this am ('12 GTi) and had a low coolant warning. Questions: 1- At 1.46 are those 2 Small O rings belong to 06H121131B? 2- What is the part number of that 1 bigger Oring? 3- Why do we need to change balance seal which is irrelevant with waterpump ? 4- What is that green color big seal for? Where does it go? Part number? 5- How can I install new belt to water pump after replacement as there is no tensioner ? 6- It looks like water pump can be replaced with only removing the big turbo hose without removing the intake manifold as there is some room there at 1.8TFSI Audi A5. Is that really possible? I need to change water pump ASAP, looking forward for answers... Thank you very much in advance.
@HumbleMechanic7 жыл бұрын
Not sure on the part numbers. You'd be better getting that info from the dealer or where you buy the parts. 3) That is just part of the recall. Most often it is not replaced unless it's leaking 4) That is a throttle body gasket~ It doesn't NEED to be replaced 5) We rarely if ever replaced the belt. You have to take the counterthreaded bolt out to replace the belt. I wouldn't mess with it if you re just doing a pump. 6) YES you do not have to take the manifold off.
@alensala54617 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for quick answers. The oil seal is just under that gear (with left treaded 12mm bolt) right? It looks like a transmission seal and looks like it is hard to get it out. Is that right? Secondly, isnt it better to change the belt as I already will be changing the pump? As I understand there is 1 20x3mm part nr N 90365302 coolant pipe oring and 2 38x4 in and out hose orings part nr 4E0121666 which are better to be changed. It looks like there is no other oring or seal and the temperature sensor and waterpump orings already come with the new whole pump...

Thanks for the video! I am about to pull the trigger on a MY13 GTI and have been doing a lot of research into the car to be sure I am making a good choice. I love the feel and look of this car (it has those cool laguna wheels on it) and seems to be at a fair price. However, I am concerned about the w/p issue and found no information about any recalls for that MY except the airbag recall. It was comforting to find your video and learn that VW did, indeed, issue a recall and resolve the problem (that did fix it, right? O_O ). I have contacted the dealer to ask them to check this out for me and confirm that the w/p on the GTI is the 06J-121-026-BG w/p.

+HumbleMechanic Would it make sense to open a case with VW to get this fixed? My car has 60399 miles on it. I got an extended warranty with Carmax, but I fear that this won't be covered. If the difference is just a sensor, and all the other mount interfaces are the same, it makes sense that this would be similar. +HumbleMechanic You, sir, prove that there are still excellent people in this world. My service rep seemed indifferent to the warranty claim proposal. My first VW was a '79 Scirocco S and I've owned one ever since. He actually told me that he's "Not VW". To which I responded that he represented the brand. I've done my own work on every VW that I've owned, including my D-street prepared '86 GTI and don't mind getting VERY filthy to own these cars. I just wish the VW of late would treat us as we defend and represent the brand. Driving a rolling sewing machine like a Toyota or Honda would make me sad, but that's the only other alternative. Thanks again!

About a month and a half ago I had my water pump replaced with the BG revision. My VIN is still showing this recall on the VW site. My main question is would they have changed all the seals you mentioned at that time as well or is that something that only just started doing as part of this campaign? Thanks, big fan of your channel!
@mmiski8 жыл бұрын
+PicanteGamer, I'm wondering the same thing. I had mine replaced with a rev BG pump just a few months before the recall was issued. They STILL wanted me to drop it off with them for the whole day. Granted the video does mention new seals also being replaced, and based on the parts list from my invoice the only part they replaced on mine was the water pump itself. So they might have a good reason to be issuing the recall regardless of past replacements.
