as a guy who has worked in the industry years back and out of practice, this is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. The best thing about it is your explanations on why you do things and the process. kudos to you.

Great vid, the only thing missing was telling how to re-teach the car the new full up/down window position so it doesn't do the anti-pinch action (which my B5.5 did). Hold the window down button until the window reaches the bottom, and keep holding for at least 3 seconds longer. Do the same all the way up, plus 3 seconds longer. It teaches the CCM the new full down and up position of the regulator.

Thanks Charles, I saw plenty of vids that told me how to remove the door panel, but none on how to remove the inner panel and most importantly the pin arrangement for the window glass. Mine was a 2012 Tiguan and this showed clearly what I needed. Perfect thanks!

Unfortunately I found this video *after* I just repaired both sides of my 2001 Jetta Wagon. The A1A video shows installing the pins through that little regulator access door. It cannot be done that way, or if it can, it means your pins are too loose. I was so frustrated I even created my own how-to video once I figured it out, but my video is far inferior to this one. Outstanding, Charles! Needless to say I am a subscriber now.

I went through this JUST to get to and clean the automatic lock solenoid that quit working some years back (Hint: A follow up video on fixting that woud be awesome here !) THis was a good reminder of things I could have done differently - specifically with that window pin (groan - had I known installing it in the window and engaging the clip later would have saved me hours or agony , but alas this was WAY before You-Tube.) A follow up video of that would be awesome. Awesome job.

Tackled my window regulator on the front passenger side on my 2012 Fusion last summer. The amount of rivets used on it was insane. I replaced the rivets with 1/4 inch nuts and bolts so if it ever goes again it'll make disassembly less of a night mare. Wish you would have made this sooner as I had to teach myself but this video serves as great reinforcement!

Well first a local mechanic said we needed a different window (it wouldn't close all the way. Then the glass company said the window is fine, it's a mechanical issue. So we go to Volkswagen reluctantly to once and for all fix the problem. They kept it one hour, charged $80.00 and said it needs a new regulator which they didn't have in stock) gave me an estimate for $680.00, $180. parts, $400 LABOR. So I thought wait a minute how hard can this be? I watched THIS VIDEO and ordered a $165.00 regulator from VW. Today I went out to prepare for the operation, took the panel off and looked around and lo and behold, the white nylon piece was just lying in the bottom of the door! I came in and watched THIS VIDEO again and fixed it without a "new regulator". Thanks for this.

I'm looking to upgrade to a double din that will configure with the steering wheel stereo controls. Usual upgrades (satellite radio, USB, etc.) Will it require re-wiring or soldering? Massively helpful video Humble, and thank you for a brilliant detailed how to. Did my driver side rear (UK car) today as it was also leaking water so fitted a nice thick bead of butyl putty around the edge of the ally panel. The plastic pin hack worked perfectly....when I think back 10 years ago on the same car....man the struggle was real! Passenger side next for same pin that fell out a month ago....not leaking water that side but will do the butyl putty on that side anyways. Thanks again. Liked! Long live the 1.9 AWX....for the win.

Thank you. In my case I had to replace also the wires and plastic that holds the window. The problem was the wires that pulls the window were not the exactly right size. I figured out how to deal with this. I just made a knot in the wire just where the wire comes out from the plastic window holder (that's the only place to do the knot). Than it was nice and perfectly snug.

R/R window motor problem? When closing the window with a 'one-touch' press of the switch - right when it rolls completely up and then encounters resistance from 'topping-out' - the motor cycles the window right back into open position and goes all the way down...which thens ends with a 'thunk' sound. If I'm 'careful' I can keep it from doing that if I 'nurse' the window closed in 'bursts' of the switch. Seems like two problems?

On my 2003 Passat, I noticed water coming inside on the footwell carpet. It appears to be coming from the door when it snows and I park the car outside for 4-5 hours. Does the regulator need to have a gasket or seal on its edge all around? I’m wondering if the reason could be a worn seal around the regulator.

Hey JFK! Pro tip. Your head gasket probably is just fine. My 1.8T was drinking up to a of antifreeze as well, just like your 1.6 Golf. You may just need a new “Rear Coolant Flange” They are plastic from the factory and get brittle over time from the heat cycles of high mileage engines. Eventually they develop leaks. Check it out on Amazon. I got an aluminum replacement part for my 1.8T and just passed 172,000 miles and going strong again! No more vanishing antifreeze!

@5:18 Don't won't to break the glass- I would advise against banging against that plastic grommet to get it out. I did, broke glass.

Hey Charles, When you do this job, can you put insulation in the doors to reduce some of the road noise as well as improve the car's ability to retain heat? What sort of insulation, if any would you recommend for such a modification? I've noticed a lot of road noise when driving my passat and I live in minnesota so I'd like to make it better if I can. Let me know what you think!

You sure can. I would a product from Dynamat or second skin. But you are probably gonna want to do all 4 doors. I don't really know how much it will help. But worth looking at
