I met Steve once in N.Y.C. at a place called Privates.Humble Pie were opening for Aerosmith.Thats when Joe Perry was in hiatus from the band.I passed Steve in the front of the stage before they played.I stopped him and greeted him.He treated me like an lifelong friend.He invited me to the Pies dressing room to smoke a part of a left over joint that he showed me.I said sure.I told him that about how much I had admired his work..Well I got bombed out of my mind and he asked me if I wanted to meet Aerosmith. I saw them down in the other dressing room.They weren't doing so well at that time,so I declined. I'll never forget that experience, Like I said He was so humble and kind.He treated me like I was the most important person there.He'll always be in my heart.What a great talent and generous human being..And great set they played.And what a voice!!!..Thank you forver my brother Steve Marriott...You're always in my prayers...

The GREATEST singer ever, no fucking contest. I was lucky enough to see the Small Faces, Humble Pie, the reformed Small Faces and Steve's Packet of Three. I met him at the Bridge House, Canning Town, London when Packet of Three played there. No rock star bullshit, just sitting at the bar telling stories and chatting to everyone. He was just a fucking great bloke and a vastly underrated musician. I will never see or hear another singer like him. When he let it go he could blow the windows out and when he took it down it was like a beautiful whisper. No other singer I've ever seen could do what he did. Thanks for the music and the memories Steve.

Beautifully put, especially your observation about his voice. That was what was so great about him - his various voices. And his songwriting. And his musicianship. And his stage presence. Sure, but Humble Pie were one of those great 70s bands that could murder live but they didn't write anthems like a lot of their peers. Their strongest songwriter left before he hit his stride, if Frampton had stuck around in the band they might have had just enough radio hits to keep them from being a "hidden gem" of sorts. Free is another great band that doesn't get enough love, but "All Right Now" kept them at least on classic rock radio enough for people to be aware of them. When you mention Humble Pie you always just have to say "Frampton was in it before he went solo". I could listen to Humble Pie and Steve Marriott all day (I have) but none of their songs have the immediacy or songwriting that made bands like Zep, Sabbath, The Who, and even Deep Purple still reference points today. I always attribute it to being so authentically bluesy that they just didn't care to focus on pop sensibilities (I don't mean that in a demeaning way because there was some great pop then) or single material. The simplest way to put it is that Humble Pie is an amazing band to get baked and get lost in a sea of ripping blues rock, but if I'm going to cover one of their songs it would probably just be doing a shittier version of one of their superior covers. On the flip side, I could slam out Communication Breakdown or Highway Star at a gig and while it may not compare to those bands either, it at least checks the "people know this" box while still being a rock song I love and don't mind playing🤷🏻♂️

You can hear why Mic didn't want him to be a member of the Stones.

Mick'd be reduced to a roadie in no time carrying Steve's guitar. LOL.😁

@@richardgreen9393 In the same vein as Hendrix blew Clapton away. When he played Clapton's jaws promptly dropped to the floor followed by his guitar as he walked out totally demoralized.

@@bluemarlin2u ....Ha Ha....Roadie Mick. ALL he seems to do is RUIN girls lives! When poor L'wren died, Mick just went out and laid the 1st girl who came along. Ruined her life, as she was 1/2 Mick's daughters age, and all her hopes and dreams of 'Ballet' were destroyed, because of Mick's ego!

Amazing, just a magical performance! What an all round great performer. The entire band is impressive. I've followed from the beginning until today. Always surprised when I find someone who's not heard of Humble Pie. ❤️✌️

“Tom Mix stand in” I had to Google Tom Mix: He was Hollywood's first Western star and helped define the genre as it emerged in the early days of the cinema.

As a huge fan of Steve Marriott and the Stones, I don't think he would've fit. Honestly, and this will sound super weird but hear me out; if Rumours never happened and they got Marriott after Bob Welch left I could see it being an oddly great return to the blues. I love the Peter Green and Rumours line ups, but if they got Steve Marriott and Gary Moore instead of Bob Welch and Bob Weston it would've been *dangerous*

Let's not get carried away! Steve Marriott ain't no Mick Jagger! Steve Marriott is good but he is a "One Trick Pony" at what we just saw him do. Making hit records is entirely different than singing the Blues.
@jasonph25223 жыл бұрын
@@harringtonbenton334 Bro- you don't have to piss on one to raise another- Marriott and Jagger are apples and oranges. Woody was the driving force behind the Faces but became a back up man in the Stones- it was good for his bank balance- so good for him but Marriott would never have faded away like that- so he wasn't a good fit at all.
@noahcrews91493 жыл бұрын
@@harringtonbenton334 Jagger doesn't hold a candle to Marriott. The only reason Steve didn't make it big is because of poor management. He would've taken over the music industry with his talent if he were given the same opportunities Mick had.
