We still have the old records of all the great bands. What we need are talent scouts who have the same standards. Problem is we would not have many records getting produced. All we would have are a bunch of musicians trying and trying.....................till it hurts; and hearing the words SORRY KEEP PRACTICING So many of the new ones today get away with the help of computers, generated help for their voices that's sounds like shit, and live shows where they remove their clothing or else? We still have many of the great older musicians but every year we have less and less. This year alone hurt with the loss of Tom Petty and Gord Downie .Grady Tate.

Nice guy, but a bit of a nutter, a few beers and smokes with him, and some good times. Thanks for the music. (My personal favourite, Wrist Job.)

Nice tribute, honest, great talent, but a bit of a nutter as said. Some ppl have too much energy, but getting ripped off all his life and the gear can’t have helped. Was in uk in 89/90 and wanted to go to his mean fiddler acoustic shows - red balloon, autumn stone… nuff said. But I missed them. Around that time I came home pissed and fell asleep with a zippo or a tailormade (normally smoke rollies) woke up in hallway, place burning down. He snuffs it similar way soon after. Didn’t realise til years after. Butterfly effect, family curse. Would have loved to have seen him play a few shows with the Stones and blow Brenda off the stage 😂

Being a lifelong Marriott fan, I find his vocals in this time (mid-80) as being abrasive, overused and tired, mainly because he gigged so much, nothing as pure as his vocals in late Faces days and Humble Pie, his height vocally. But his guitar playing had developed to a world class status. In early Small faces days he was a gifted novice, able to fill the sound with 3 or 4 basic chords, well- done but he learned as he went. By Humble Pie days, he learn so much working around Frampton and Clempson, that he actually surpassed them with his natural talents. In the mid-80s to his death, he had become a world class guitarist, covering for his worn out vocal chords. It's all good though. He'll always be an ace in my eyes.

This is only my theory, but those hair metal bands of the 80s, most of whom I couldn't stand, usually featured lead vocalists who seemed to be copying Steve Marriott's vocals and delivery. The difference between those goofs and their incoherent shrieking and Steve? First and foremost, he's a triple-threat; singer, songwriter, stunning lead guitarist. Second, he's genuine and not phony like those teased-hair spandex-legged caricatures. And you could make out the words he sang. That's style, originality, taste, brains -- he had it all. And he was always truly confident and not putting on some dopey "cocky" act. He was the real thing, and those clowns were just cookie-cuttter knockoffs of greater musicians who'd gone before, IMHO. -luv, Jezzie!

My comment did not concern the benefit of fans. It was about Steve. He should have been a rich man. He was treated very badly. And I believe it aged him prematurely, both physically and mentally...
@powderfinger65978 жыл бұрын
I agree. Steve should have been a huge star and not reduced to playing bars in the early '80's. However, Steve and Frampton were working on new material at the time of Marriot's death and I think Steve was on his way up again as younger fans were introduced to Mr. Marriot's music.
@marshall21507 жыл бұрын
The Dungarees are a blues "affectation" that he probably picked up whilst living in Atlanta late seventies / early eighties. Fact is that even Humble Pie did not get their just financial rewards - the money apparently went into other peoples pockets. But that is a frequent and recurring occurrence in the "Music Industry".

@@PatrickTowers The credited songwriter for Walking the Dog was Rufus Thomas. To be real here, the Small Faces never came to America, so technically, they were not part of the British Invasion. In fact, I don't think the Small Faces ever got any airplay in the US until after the band had changed its name to the Faces. It would have been cool if they were part of the invasion, but that didn't happen. They were one of the UK's best-kept secrets.
