Perfectly said. Typical van builds only show the glammour side of why they think their choice is the beat choice. George takes us down rabbit holes which allows us to see a deeper level of how certain choices affect other issues in a van build.

Ted Brogan He also shows us the tricks and trades, that Flipping of the board over the tires that’s amazing and such a time saving aspect. I am so hyped just underfunded for my van LOL

Layla Lu , Just jump in with both feet. I am funding as I go. A lot of the joy and satisfaction is in the build journey (slowwwww as it may be). Working it slowly forces me to check and double check my plans for each step, helping avoid mistakes. Bound to be a few of those regardless. I just mean to say that there was never going to be the time when I had everything lined up, so I bought the van and am taking it one step at a time. Learning and absorbing all the knowledge that George is so willing to share with us. He is a Gem for sure. Thank you George. Hope you decide to just “do it”, you will find the journey amazing.

Elizabeth Golding I would love to jump in with both feet, but financially it’s not possible. I’m in New York where the pandemic hit the hardest and I’m still out of work and barely making ends meet from what I get from unemployment I can’t be making any other purchases at the moment.

@@laylalu920 Good luck on it then. I hope it works out in the future. My wife and I have 4 little kids, so all of this learning for me is only meant to give me ideas of what I can do in 25 years. So much will change between now and then. I'm so glad George teaches the "why", rather than simply showing the results. It's the "why" that you and I can take in to a Van build whether it be 1 year or 25 years down the road

Ah! I feel much better now that I got my Humble Road fix! Thanks George! Glad you got a CNC machine. All the Euro camper vans have a CNC cut teak bath mat in their shower stalls. Now you can make them too, yay!!! They look so cool and are very functional. What about a CNC cut acrylic wine glass cabinet as well? All the Euro vans have them along with a strip of blue LED lights to glamorize it. Apparently, in all those German Hymer vans, the wine glasses stay put and never knock around in their custom acrylic seats.

Interesting product. Unfortunately it's fairly heavy at 12 lbs per square foot and the R-value is only 0.2 per inch. Being a gypsum product I have to wonder how it would hold up to the constant shock and vibration of driving, too.

Your video's and builds continue to impress, with all the detail you so graciously provide. I'm surprised tho.....at 12:45 you discuss thoroughly covering the scuffed area of the ribs with sealant, yet you installed with only a zigzag adhesive pattern on the wood. It will likely cover most of the scuffs, but smoothing a thin layer on the metal ribs also is the best way to guarantee complete coverage. Don't you just 'love' arm chair quarterbacks like me? All the best.

As usual, I enjoyed the video. I learn so much from your videos. I love the time and patience you take to make your cardboard templates. Adding that little extra spray to act as primer on the untouched side of your ceiling beam is that extra mile or that little detail to make your van builds special. I really like that. It is good that the sound of your soul is faring well today, it just needs a little quiet time. It was good to hear you laugh today. Be well and be safe. Lizard skin spray! What in the world?

Dan, if you don’t mind buying used, you can get a heck of a lot of value for your dollar by buying a Van from a reputable commercial business. My 2014 van came from a company that used it for delivering doors to job sites. They have a maintenance contract with the local Mercedes Dealership and service records were available for me to review! Yep, it was dirty and scuffed up but I saved about 6 grand! Just a thought!

@@ZydecoBreakfast Hi John, I think I buy almost everything gently used at this point in my life. Lots of life changes during this plandemic. My plans are becoming even simpler than I expected. I just came across a step van with low mileage. I think the 4spd transmission has kept it on the market, and is reflected in the low price. Glad I grew up driving manual transmissions 🤣

George these are great videos and you do awesome work. Regarding the differences of the widths fore/aft of the wheel wells these were specifically designed this way since that angled wall in front of the wheel well transitions to the pillar for structure. The "holes" in the sheet metal are referred to as access and or lightning holes. In some of the other videos you have made reference to the curve in the body side - that is referred to as tumble home.

The Promaster is actually a Fiat Ducato - so it's an Italian design. Which might at least partially explain some eccentricities with differing widths. :) Also, in my personal opinion, you really should have secured the ceiling strips with Plusnuts and mechanical bolts. Self-tapping screws can't help to be potential rust startup points, since you're screwing through bare metal. Also, they're much weaker than Plusnuts insofar as pull-out strength goes, at least individually.
@HumbleRoad
@HumbleRoad 4 жыл бұрын
I agree with the PlusNut theory. In fact I just purchased a PlusNut air tool from Bollhoff to the tune of a few thousand dollars. In this van's install, I will be using very lightweight removable panels.

I wonder if you could use a product from the home construction world. There's a product called Zip R sheathing. It's an insulated and sealed sheathing material to act as a thermal break on wall studs to reduce thermal bridging from the wood framing of the house. Normally it's meant to be used as sheathing on the walls, but if it can be used on the floor, it might be a way to provide a thermal break on the floor for your future builds

I suspect the channels intrude into the floor space more as you move towards the midpoint of the van's length because the middle of the van is subject to more stresses than the rear. Lol, this is why I myself went with a body-on-frame Chevy Express; too much thought goes into these unibody vans! Unibodies are the better product for most people, but once I start cutting into something, I don't want to try and anticipate all the consequences
