I cannot take my eyes off of the ceiling, with the tracks that hold those removable tongue & groove, white-painted wood ceiling slats. Hey George, smart move with the triple Insulation at the back of the fridge. I hope you are planning to vent the waste heat outside. Those fridges make a LOT of heat!! The air flow at the top of your fridge cabinet might be ok in winter but hell in summer. I fitted a double fan system for my fridge vents, to expel waste heat in summer and send it back into the van in winter. Keep Building 🐒
@HumbleRoad5 жыл бұрын
Open ventilation throughout the entire coach. Every nook and cranny; wide open. The two MaxxAir fans will exchange all the air in the coach several times a minute. I will be surprised if that heat can hang around long enough to be felt. Will do some testing in the desert.
@normanmazlin67415 жыл бұрын
@@HumbleRoad Good luck with this! Here in Aus where summer temps regularly get to 95degF any heat source inside the van is pure EVIL and must be expelled with force.

Mr George. Just wanted to say Hi and thank u for your content. It's really great stuff. I'm a 41 year old electrician from Toronto (Let's go Raptors!!!)😜 As a trade for 22 years, I just got to say.. your work is TOP notch! But u already know that. U have been a major influence for me to get off my ass and get shit done. If u can do it after 40 years of working and raising 5 kids and 4 dogs... what's my excuse. I too have a Motorhome and at the moment I'm in the process of building a breach cart just like the one u built way back. I LOVE what u are going and if I could afford to, I would come work for u for free. If u are ever in Toronto, give me a ring and I hook up with a spot and some real home made Italian meals. Try not to work too hard, can't wait to see your boy Alex work his magic. 😘😘😘

Hi, George, I hope you and your son can work together in the humble road van building business. I have a few questions for you. I have a 2018 Mb Sprinter 170 4x4 crew van with two Maxx air fans installed; my bed is north to south and I was wondering if you recommend installing side windows in the bedroom ( CRL VW1033R Back Passenger Side Universal Non-Contoured Half Slider - 33-7/8" x 10-7/8") I already have plenty of ventilation I just thought it may be nice to see what is going on outside while laying down. I also thought of installing 360 view cameras that I can see monitor from the bed. You also said you would always install sink and stove on the passenger side. do you still feel that way? I love your channel and I have seen everyone. thanks to you and June.
@HumbleRoad5 жыл бұрын
The extra window is completely up to you. As you indicated, the two Maxx fans are providing plenty of ventilation, as I knew they would! ;-) Think about risk vs reward, pros vs cons. FWIW, I prefer factory glass. regarding the galley, I still like it on the patio side. In my first build here, when standing at the sink, you have 180 degree viewing out the windows. I like all that open glass, I like to see outside. Most van lifers have few to no windows. To each his own.

Definitely make sure that shore plug is nowhere near touching the ground and well above or built into the hitch frame. Some idiot thought putting a trailer hitch wiring plug on the very back under the bumper and lower than the hitch was a good idea on my van (bought that way, and this idiot didn't move it's location before taking it boondocking) . That plug didn't last one week on a BLM dirt road. Presuming your vehicle might see at least dirt roads with bumps and small hills and still hold together?

A question. Why does no one stick electronics up there? I'd think putting the inverter and batteries up there would shorten a lot of your wiring. From the solar to the batteries, from the batteries to the lights and fans and A/C. Plus you could mount the controls and status display there so you could see the vehicle's status from most of the vehicle.
@HumbleRoad4 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the cargo shelf above the cockpit, the components you speak of are too heavy and too large to install up there. Also, in a vehicle, you want to maintain as low a center of gravity as possible. so the heaviest items should be mounted on the van floor or under the chassis.

I feel I wud want a lip on that overhead bin to help keep crap inside. Great idea to triple insulate the fridge. I don't understand why you not box fridge in. Doesn't the fridge generate heat which one wud want to vent to the outside in the sumner time? I lolz in first minute. If I lived near yr shop, I wud drive over to work for you for free. Now I feel sympathy for cappy van builders because who cud make a RV company profitable when there is so much work that sud go into the build?
@HumbleRoad5 жыл бұрын
The "lip" on the leading edge hasn't been addressed yet. If you contain the heat of the fridge in it's own box, you will (a) shorten the life of the fridge and (b) containing the heat in a box will act like a radiator. In my design, the heat escapes through convection and is sucked out of the van immediately. With the two Maxx Air fans, the air in the van is completely exchanged several times per minute.
