Oh man, I'm learning so much from your videos. I always had my doubts about the differences between these kinds of pickups and this gave me some clarity. I was already thinking of upgrading my pickups as my bridge pickup is almost dead. Great content always brother, this channel needs to get much bigger!

Now's a great time to upgrade given there's so many options available! Glad this was informative

I've heard many bands use single coils in the studio to lay down an extra track or two to add in some clarity and definition to the mix. They compliment the humbucker sound very well. There are artists that predominately use single coils, such as early Iron Maiden, YJM, Uli John Roth, Paul Gilbert, Wintersun, early Traci Guns, early Opeth... The very bright mid-forward sound of single-coils is perfect for Modern Metal, as you see in many a tutorial video on how to dial in those heavy guitar tones, they almost always come up with something that sounds close to what you could get by just using single-coils. I've also heard the mid-forward sound pairs very well with low tunings (check out some videos on guys discussing how their Starts or Tele's sound better tuned down) so perhaps you should try putting your Strat in Drop A or something! You can always tame them down to taste with the tone control! Keep Rocking brother! \m/

That is very correct, before I read your comment, I was concluding the same things

Yeah all those modern bands love their single and split coil sounds. A is pretty low for a 6 but I've got both this strat and my space T in drop C and they sound great!

Great review/examples of the pickups here Z! The age old question, single or humbuckers! For me, for metal, gotta be humbuckers, however (to me) you can beat clean single tone!! \m/
@HighZ2 ай бұрын
Definitely agree there! Humbuckers rock but there's no denying the strengths of the single coils

I really like the sound of humbuckers for clean tones. There's something very pure and calming about it. But single coils have the sort of ratty, scrappy character I also like. I think it comes down to less about which is better for a genre and more to do with what character you want at the time.

Definitely. You can do whatever it takes to serve the song you're writing!

Love my Ultra, you can easily dial evil metal tone nd it does funk as well ❤️

Definitely a versatile instrument!

There is a certain quality that single coil guitars have... They sound a little more transparent, and it's more obvious that I'm listening to a stringed instrument rather than a distortion machine. I genuinely prefer humbuckers but I can't deny the appeal of the single coil sound
@HighZ2 ай бұрын
They definitely have that kind of attack and that bright sound! Lots of modern bands use them. Humbuckers will forever have my heart though!

I could definitely hear patterns better during fast notes when it was played on single coil, Single coil does have more clarity for complex artistry You maybe have a guitar that can switch between double single coil while playing?
@HighZ2 ай бұрын
I can hear what you mean! Yeah I have guitars with coil splits for individual pickups and with both pickups

Hey man, good video as always. But I got a question. How do you put music on Spotify? Ive been having trouble with that
@HighZ2 ай бұрын
Great question. You have to go through a distribution service, but that also means you can release to multiple streaming services at once. You also have to make sure your mixes are below the dB threshold of each streaming service or else they'll clobber it
