I like the single coil because of brightness and twangy sound, and i like the humbucker for more rocking and bluesy tone, why not to get both on one Guitar, HSS Strat or PRS?

Yep, was gonna get a les Paul, instead I got an HSS Strat for now. Someday however, I’ll snag that les Paul.

I've had an HSS Strat for a while now, big fan of the pickup selection. I mostly use the humbucker bridge pickup for heavier songs and use the neck/center single coil setting for softer stuff. The strat having the neck/center options is great too since it cuts some of the mid and top end, plus the 60hz hum gets cut out so it ends up sounding similar to a "softer" humbucker. Would definitely recommend trying it out.

I've got the G&L Legacy Sunburst Stratocaster, and I've got 3 pickups. A humbucker is the one far away from the neck, and the 2 other ones are single coils.

When I get my money up, I'm aiming for a nice PRS. I'm sad I wasn't into guitar as a kid/teen like my friends were because their dads bought them all the expensive guitars. I had to buy dinky jacksons :(

@Brandon-dy8us There’s a video called “where does the tone in a guitar come from”. It doesn’t matter what you have. It basically proves you could literally play on a solid block of wood as long as you have the same pickups and pickup placement it will generally sound the same. So, buy cheap and dial in your pickups. 😎👍

You are the best demo guitarist online. You actually play the unique styles exceptionally well that showcase specific pickups, bringing out the best in each pickup. Good job and thanks!!

Thank you. I was trying to explain my child the difference between the two types. He kept asking and told him the only way you will understand is by listening to both back to back. There is no way I could describe it to him better than you did.

I didn't realize that I like single coil pickups so much until I played a Telecaster. I now have a Fender Performer with Split Coil Humbucker pickups. I enjoy my Humbuckers in my Gibson too. It's getting the right tools for the job. Get out there and try them all.

While Brian May technically does use single-coil pickups, I think it’s interesting to note that his guitar has phase switches, and effectively allows him to humbuck. His favorite pickup selection is the first two pickups out of phase, used in Bohemian Rhapsody, The March Of The Black Queen, etc.

It's best to have both humbucker and single coil guitars. One can never emulate the other, no matter what effect you try to use, you have a wider variety of tones if you use both.

I like the sound of the Epiphone Dot starting at 1:22. That has a clear-crisp tone great for rhythm playing. Single-coils are clearer, crisper, and more articulate, making them more suitable for rhythm playing e.g. chords. Humbuckers on the other hand are great for lead playing due to their beefy, broad tone.

The single coil is where it's at. That aggressive, cutting tone just sounds so nice and twangy on the Tele. Nothing against humbuckers they just don't have the same voice and are just smoother. I like my guitar with a little stanky jank
@snowjix

Smooth is the word, and i really like that sound. Single coils sound great. But when im playing, i want that smooth texture. Get some low subtle gain, reverb, roll off the highs and mids and just swim in the buttery goodness. Idk maybe it sounds trash, but i really enjoy it 😅

For the longest time I thought I was just really bad at pinch harmonics and getting those cool distortions, I was playing on an Epiphone Special that came with humbuckers, then one day I bought a squier and I found out it was the one time when I could actually blame the equipment cause I had no issues whatsoever getting those squeals out of the strat. Idk if it was bad pickups or just the nature of humbuckers that was preventing me lol
@goregore6259
@goregore6259 4 ай бұрын
Think it could just be you're playing. For me, it's easier to do squeals on a humbucker guitar but also loads of distortion helps.

To really understand pickups consider learning what affects the tone and sound. Like diameter of the wire used quality of the wire thinkness if the magnets strength of magnets material of the magnets. There are almost unlimited factors that affect sound your pickups produce. However in general IMO the single thing that determine one's choice in guitars is marketing

Dude! I did not know about the switching. Damn! That's way cool. And an "Ah HA!" Moment. Of course instead of soldering the two coils together you solder them to the switch. Thanks so much for being informative. I'm subscribed to a technical guitar builder(luther?) and he is quite good. However this S/H switch is outstanding. Kind of like a H-S-S set up in a super strat. Thanks again.

Isn't the plectrum and the equalizer more relevant to the sound brightness? I still believe, with every guitar there must be most sounds achievable. Because I know software "tube simulators" that create all sorts of sounds. Or do I need software in oder to cover 99% of sound with lets say a SSS guitar, while with hardware I could only achieve 80-95% and without hardware probably only 20% : the specific SSS sound?
