What dehumidifier would you recommend for a space of 1,000 square feet and constant temps of 70- 95 fahrenheit ? I have been looking at several but most don't operate in that high of temperature.
@Just4Growers9 жыл бұрын
Christopher Spanovich Hi Christopher. Firstly, sorry for my delayed response. This one slipped through the net! 95F is a high max that would cause many / most plant species heat stress. Dehumidifying the air at these temperatures will massively increase vapor pressure deficit leading to transpiration stress on your plants (dry, hot air sucks more moisture out of your plants). So I would check out my video "TOO HOT" to see if there's anything you can do to reduce temperatures. Now, regarding sizing your dehumidifier. You need to base this on the amount of water your plants drink in a day - typically in gallons if you're based in the US. Your dehumidifier should be capable of removing at least this amount of moisture from the air. Did you check out Ideal Air's range? www.ideal-air.com/products/dehumidifiers-and-humidifiers.aspx The Quest brand is also very highly regarded. questhydro.com
@chowchow55559 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply, I will be experimenting with 95 as high point and it will not be held there but I do need it at this temperature on occasions as these plants are very special. Thanks for the suggestion I will check them out.

Everest Fernandez i got a "miami" climate 60-80+ %RH all the time... No humidifier (saving for it). my plan is running lights at night.. the heat from the light and the fans lower humidity. lights are off during the day... air outdoors has RH 60-70% during the day. i have a fan window blowing fresh air during the day a couple of times a day. Do you see this at mold risk for an annual heavy flowering plant?
@Just4Growers7 жыл бұрын
+Abigail Indica How are your lights on temperatures Abigail? Have you looked up your vapor pressure deficit (VPD)? If it's on the low side, especially if you are in flowering and fruiting, you'll need to make up a slightly stronger nutrient solution - but really, the sooner you can invest in a dehumidifier, for mitigating mold risk as you say, the better. Plenty of air movement around the canopy, night and day. Good luck an prioritize acquiring a dehum. Your local hydro store might even be able to help you acquire an ex-demo, refurbished, second-hand or discounted unit. He who asks, gets an answer! :)
@CheesieGamer7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advise. I am using 2 x P300 in a 2x 4 area, using the "manifold' technique, best control of cannopy growth of my annual heavy fruiting plants. I am trying to keep temperatures between 26 and 28 C. That's pretty much room temperature... Running the lights at night compensate the 2+ degrees each lamp add to the tent temperature. I checked the VPD and I see i'm just in the perfect tropical climate with high temp and high hum. Only a dehum or AC may help... but given my setup is stealth and small, i am keeping costs low. I am using G.H. Nuts. 1/4 strength for N. 1/3 strength P and K... I guess since the lights are not like your GAvitas or HPS1000 the nuts intake is gretly reduced... more than these ratios appear to cause nitrogen tox during veg.... now in flower I am planning to reach 1/2 strengh... although 1/3 showed some slight tip burn.. In your video you say when lights go off, R.H. Go up, here in the tropics I noticed RH 70% when lights are on... even 60% during the sunny day..... 80% at night... it's always humid regardless :/

Is it not possible to use c02 supplementation when running a ventilated garden? I ask because in the video it was stated in ventilated gardens that it's crucial to keep the extraction fans on, wouldn't that suck out all the c02 being supplied by the tanks?
@SmokynJeffreys9 жыл бұрын
+Nino “Blue Pineapples” Brown Yes, having an extraction fan pulling air straight from your room will decrease the co2 levels for sure. When you run co2 you need to keep your room as air tight as possible as to let the co2 saturate your plants. When running co2 you do not want to extract any air from your room nor add any air. Either of which will disrupt elongated co2 saturation. To cool your room use a portable a/c unit, window unit, or mini split unit depending on the amount of heat generated by your lighting, fans, dehumidifier, and so on. Make sure you do the research to avoid purchasing an a/c unit that adds or removes the air in your room as well. You could also use a closed loop cooling system(simple fans and flex pipe) on your hoods if possible but that depends on your lighting equipment.

+Eric Jensen 150 sq. ft. Is 14 sq. meters. In moderate VPD conditions this amount of canopy can drinks around 5L per m2 per day so 70L or 18.5 galore or 147 pints. I'd look for a dehum rated to remove 180 pints per day or more.

Everest, I have a humidity question if I may. I'm growing peppers in my closet, the temps are always between 77 and 81 degrees F. The humidity is always between 26% and 32%. My pepper plants are doing well and even started to bud in just 4 weeks. You (and other humidity videos) say the humidity has to be much higher than what I have, but as I stated, my pepper plants seem to be doing good. So should the humidity still be higher then 26% and 32% in my case? If so, what can I do to raise it or should I just leave everything as is? Thanks ahead of time.
@Just4Growers8 жыл бұрын
+Larry Diaz Thanks so much, Larry. Great question! Your peppers will be happier in higher humidity for sure. How old are they? Are they budding prematurely or are you happy with their size? It all comes down to something called Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) - www.just4growers.com/stream/temperature-humidity-and-c02/vapor-pressure-deficit-the-hidden-force-on-your-plants.aspx have a read. I'll make a video about it soon.
@SoldierOfTheLord8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, Everest. As of now, they're 5 weeks old and about 5 1/2" tall. I already pinched off the buds since I don't want them to start focusing on fruiting just yet. I'm quite happy with their size and they look pretty healthy, but they may be budding prematurely. I'm trying to figure out how to raise the humidity in the room to (as you say) make them happier lol. How can that be accomplished. Will the link you provided explain how? Thanks again, Everest.

I am in Phoenix Arizona and it gets hot as hell. My pots are outside so no way to control the temp or humidity. I have the condition you speak of when too much water is brought up and too much calcium blocks nutrients. Suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Hey LCG, thanks for the extra PINGS in my pocket! Always love a cheeky vibration. I struggle with VPD in practice. I live in a very arid part of the world so I'm always having to add extra humidity into my grow room, even with fully sized plants. It's nuts! My best advice, after being aware of VPD, is to respond to it accordingly with nutrient strength. In my case, I go easy - notching it down from say, 1.8 mS to 1.5 because I know my plants are uptaking a lot of water due to the high VPD. I add extra Cal/Mag and silica to further help my plants cope. It's not so much about "getting things perfect" (but kudos if you do!), rather-for me at least-it's about being aware of the situation and taking appropriate action to mitigate plant stress. Hope this helps! Let's keep in touch amigo. :)

Hey Everest whats the best temperature for high humidity.. you kinda skipped over that
@Just4Growers7 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Fleming That's an interesting question as temperature and humidity are so closely related. As air temperature rises, so does its capacity to hold on to moisture. What we need is a metric that combines them both - and this is called vapor pressure deficit or VPD. A video all about VPD is on my todo list. You can find an article about it here in the meantime: www.just4growers.com/stream/temperature-humidity-and-c02/vapor-pressure-deficit-the-hidden-force-on-your-plants.aspx

Your description of RH is a little off. Basically, a low humidity creates a diffusion pressure that makes water more able to evaporate thus speeding up transpiration. A high humidity reduces this pressure thus slowing respiration. RH is directly related to temperature as warmer air temp has a higher capacity for water vapor, meaning the RH is lower (because a smaller percent of total capacity is filled by the same amount of vapor).
@Just4Growers9 жыл бұрын

So if I have a cool indoor box (19-22 °C) They can tolerate a low humidity (im around 20/30 !) ? I have removed humidifiers because I had a fungus issue on the precedent run and I see no difference with humidity sticking under 30 compared to the 60 im used to. (3wks old plants) I'm srsly considering stopping using humidifiers seeing the nuisances it can brings (insects and fungus are more likely to show up and thrives), and noticing no difference at least when temperature are low. (I do sometimes bring stuff from outside, indoors that why I have this kind of issue , I know its bad :( ) Thanks for the videos, and keep up this nice pace ! ^^

@Just4Growers10 жыл бұрын
MrBigkel15 Whooaa. That's some low relative humidity you got there my friend. If you're growing in pots, you may want to consider using individual humidity domes while they are young. Link your extraction fan to a humidity controller (check out the Kronus Series by Titan Controls) and see how that works out for you. Once your plants are bigger they will transpire a lot of moisture into the air and could solve your problem for you. Humidifiers in grow tents .... they can work ... just make sure they are connected to a controller (e.g. EOS1) so they don't overwork. If your plants are in vegetative, try and get the RH up to 50% at least ... 60 - 65% is ideal. I guess you must live in an arid part of the world-like me! Let me know how you get on.

Even changing the playback speed to 50%, it was hard to follow because there aren't natural breaks in the speaking pattern. Typically, we pause at the end of each sentence, even if but for a moment, which creates a break in the auditory processing demands on the brain. To be fair, I currently have a migraine, but this was very hard to follow.

bruh, this vid is awesome and very informative but may i suggest an improvement? Don't talk so fast! >< It could come off as annoying and would drive potential subs away! Keep up the good work

Hi Bobby, you can slow it down by clicking on the cog icon at the bottom right of the player and selecting playback speed >> x .75
@quatogs9 жыл бұрын
+Everest Fernandez (Just4Growers) Thanks, I didn't know that. Somehow my speed doesn't have .75 option, I tried .5 but its so slow. Anyway, I will watch it now.

Personally I really enjoy the fast talking since most other channels tend to talk you to sleep. With most videos I go with 1.25 or even 1.5 speed ^^. Keep up the nice work

VPD is a fascinating topic. I was messing around with a leaf porosity meter just the other day to physically measure transpiration directly at the leaf! Very interesting stuff. Looking forward to making the vid.

Shot after shot after shot of women in bikinis is utterly unhelpful and downright disgusting for children wanting to learn more about humidity, or adults trying to honor their relationships and watch anything that might, FOR ONCE, not be about sex! Thanks for, at best, annoying people and, at worst, cultivating sex addictions in children.

+Nina Lewis Hi Nina-sorry I speak so fast. You can click on the 'cog' icon at the bottom right of the player and select "Playback speed" and then pick x.75 - I sound like I've overdosed on my meds but it's definitely markedly slower. Happy to answer your humidity-related questions too. :)
