Below are requirements for spinner position in India playing abroad. 1) Rohit and Virat generally cannot bat well in 1st 3 matches of a 5 match series , keeping this in mind it’s crucial that a spinner have to bat and expected to score runs . Getting wickets is secondary . 2) if there are multiple spinners , then the spinner who has potential to get more runs will be given priority, not the spinner who can get wickets. 3) Spinner has to average more than Virat and Rohit in batting and should have scored more centuries then them .

Ashwin is probably the best Indian test player of his generation considering that he performed particularly at high standards all through his career except for minor blips - overseas records as spinner and 1-2 series at home that didn’t keep to his high standards. I don’t think either Kohli or Rohit have performed particularly well after their few years at peak in test batting. Its most likely both will end up in averaging 45-48 the longer they delay retirement

They all say, Ashwin didn't do well in SENA. See all his 40 wickets in Australia just now published by Cricket Australia YT channel. There was no score board pressure for him to attack, he was always going to contain batsman. Lyon would get loads because Aus batters score a lot, top order is knocked out by pace bowlers, so when teams attack, Lyon would get those wickets. Situation is not same for Ashwin. He has done really well in Australia. Ashwin is more strategic and intelligent and constant works on getting wickets. He has taken greats like Cook, Sangakkara, Amla, Warner, Smith, Marnus etc., He deserved better farewell, and communication. Will they drop Bumrah if he cannot score / field well. Bowler primary role different. But in India, batting starts from WK and bowlers have to face the pressure to score runs / chase, hardly any match the batters cross 200 in SENA and now in India also they cannot play spin and no one is introspecting it.

Ashwin is always a better spin bowler than Jadeja but he has been a Victim of Team Balance. Our Top 6 Batters are not confident enough to play in Overseas and they needed an extras cushion with an All-Rounder. Jadeja being a better Batter than Ashwin and the absence of Fast Bowling Allrounders in India at par with Jadeja Batting level resulted in "Best Spinner Ashwin" sitting out in overseas Test matches. I can understand the Team Management decision of not playing Ashwin as first choice spinner in overseas but the way Ashwin has announced retirement in the Mid of the Series indicates that Ashwin has never been given enough respect he deserves..!!!

It is a HUMILIATION. True, but Top order was consistently failing so they want all rounders more as a cushion to score. This is happening for last many years. They expect bowlers to bat and score but batsmen will never bowl few overs!!! I think the tipping point was, when Sundar was preferred ahead of him and Jadeja in NZ series and in Perth test. Maximum representation has always been Maharashtra, TN representation has always been less. How many Kohli, Gill and Rohit Sharma are getting aren't there any other good openers. Only team in the world who goes with left hand pace attack in Test is India predominantly. How many quality offspinners have we produced, how many quality left hand spinners have we produced, once we lagged good pace attack but now we have many but why only relying on Bumrah? Siraj is good when ball swings in test match. Even in south, only people from bigger community is representing. Why was Natraj dropped after 2020-2021 series, just because he doesn't come from elite community and is South Indian. This is reality. How many players have come from Eastern part of India ? Nothing but discrimination..

The thing is there is only one option for spinner in sena countries and with our fast bowler cant bat like starc, cummins we cant accomodate ashwin specially when jaddu, sundar can give more in batting... There is nitish reddy who is taking a place of proper fast bowler just because he can bat.. We need extra batting in sena countries so we will play with this combination.. If ashwin feels humiliation in that.. Happy retirement for him then and all the best for his future endeavours.

Ashwin was getting dropped the moment he does not pick 6-8 wickets. He was dropped from the England tour, and when a English press asked why aren't you playing Ashwin, Virat Kohli said because England has many left handers. When the press guy asked all the more reason to play an off spinner, Virat got up and walked away. He was dropped from the WTC finals, which India reached because of his performance. After the 2018 South Africa tour, he only got six games over the period of three and a half years. He was constantly made to back at number or below, by when there was no opportunities for him to score, with only bowlers for his company, Jadeja got to bat at number 4-5. He didn’t perform well in NZ series but he was the man of the series with BD with fifers and a century. In fact he was the main reason for ICT success to test championship finals and yet he was treated as newbie. BCCI should have discussed with the players like him and provide a better exit. If the player is old or not performing well, just communicate that he isn’t selected. Too bad we always pick bowlers by the pitch conditions and we never drop a batsman if they can’t play in certain pitches.
