The kind of improvisation he does is possible because of his insane rhythm sense. He never loses a single beat ever even with very difficult beats like rupak. He can set any words to any taal instantly so he is a great composer too. He has composed most number of original compositions as self singing ghazal singers and still doing it. He is one of the greatest harmonium player too. He plays tabla too. His range of 3 octaves is flawless even at the lowest and highest notes. He is one and only one. God made him like only one.

Privileged to have heard him live in London. Amazing thing is it was a treat by my jigri yaar ( best friend), and he’s a Bengali, doesn’t understand Urdu/ Punjabi. He knew I love Ustad sahib, so he bought two tickets for Logan Hall concert in London, but kept it secret till the last moment. Only when we got to Russell Square he told me. He became a fan himself thirty odd years ago when he used to listen to him in my car in our student days in London. Thanks Sam for the treat mate! 6:23
