ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾ ਜਾਣੀ, ਉਮਰਾਂ ਬੀਤ ਗਈਆਂ, ਬੀਤ ਗਈ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਸੁਹਾਨੀ, ਮਿਟ ਗਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਤੋਂ, ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਇੱਕ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਕਦ ਘਰ ਆਵੇਗਾ, ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਦੁਆਵਾਂ ਰਾਵ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ। ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕੀ ਜੁਦਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ। ਸਹੀਂਓ ਨੀ, ਨਾਲ ਸੁਲੂਕ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਵੇ ਮਾਹੀ, ਅਸੀਂ ਹਾਂ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਪੱਖੀ, ਤੈਂ ਦਿਲਬਰ ~~, ਅਸਾਂ ਮੌਤ ਉਡੀਕੀ ਰੱਖੀ, ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਨਾ ਆਵੇਂ; ਥੱਕ ਜਾਵਣ ਸਾਡੀ ਅੱਖੀਂ, ‘ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਫ਼ਰੀਦ’ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੜੀਆਂ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ ਲੱਜ਼ਤ ਇਸ਼ਕ਼ ਦੀ ਚੱਖੀ। ਭੁੱਲ ਗਈ ਏ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਜਲ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਵੇ, ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਾਰ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਵੇ, ਕੰਘੀ ਵਾਹੀ ਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਮੈਂ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ ਲਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ, ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕੀ ਜੁਦਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ। ਮੱਤ ਮਾਰ ਛੱਡੀ ਮਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਨੇ, ਵੰਗਾਂ ਭੰਨੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਗਜਰੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੋੜੇ ਨੇ, ਫਿਰਾਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ’ਚ ਵਾਂਗ ਸ਼ੁਦਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ, ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕੀ ਜੁਦਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ। ਉੱਚੀਆਂ-ਲੰਮੀਆਂ ਲਾਲ ਖਜੂਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਵ੍ਹੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ ਸਾਡੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦਮ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ, ਗਲੀਆਂ ਸੁੰਨ, ਉਜਾੜ ਦਿਸੀਵਣ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵੇਲਾ ਖਾਵਣ ਆਵੇ, ‘ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਫ਼ਰੀਦ’ ਉੱਥੇ ਕੀ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਯਾਰ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ। ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਲੰਘਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਵੇ, ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਬੁੱਲ੍ਹੀਆਂ ’ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਵੇ, ਗੱਲ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਦਿਲ ’ਚ ਲੁਕਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ, ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਕੀ ਜੁਦਾਈ; ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਹੀ ਰੁੱਸਿਆ।
