Eric Daniel It’s actually easier to achieve a more powerful sound on a C trumpet due to its larger bore usually and simply less tubing that’s why they’re used in orchestras!

Eric Daniel I do however still think this is really impressive with Mr. Churampi playing on a Bb trumpet!

My c trumpet is so damn sharp all the time I have to adjust the slide a lot unlike how my b flat slide is stuck and it doesn’t even need it moved

If you are ANY instrumentalist in ANY orchestra, regardless of whether you are a first chair wind or fifth stand violin, you should not count resting measures, period! Just like the conductor memorizing the ENTIRE score of any given piece, you, as an instrumentalist need to be so familiar with your part (read: memorize it) to the extent that you know exactly when to come in throughout the piece's entirety without relying on counting measures of rest...it's that simple.

@@ianbruns7103 the concerto was written in E for E trumpet but is now more commonly played in Eb because of the prevelance of Eb and Bb trumpets

I don't get it. Why does everyone think it's harder to play this on a b flat? I've never played a C, D or E flat trumpet. Inform me please?

People have a notion that the other trumpets are better. I personally think that's BS, and that each type of trumpet have a different sound and qualities that can be used for different situations.

@@aaronwhite02 Eb trumpets tend to naturally have a lighter and brighter sound. The difficulty of playing the Haydn/Hummel etc. on Bb is not in the notes themselves but playing them stylistically correct - on a Bb it is easy to play things too heavily - the passage leading up to the high concert Db in the first movement of the Haydn is a good example. So it tends to be played on Eb trumpet to make life easier. That said, a lot of orchestras ask for the Haydn on Bb in auditions these days, so players have to be able to do most things on most equipment, it's just a case of making life easier
