I used to play this song with a band back in the late 70's. As the keyboardist, I absolutely loved playing this song! Back in those days I used a Fender Rhodes and a Minimoog. I also dialed up a pretty convincing flute sound on the Minimoog to play over the top of the second verse. Of course the EWF version is also great but since we didn't have horns, this version was a lot easier for us to cover and the crowd always loved it.

I've grown up on EWF, maybe my all-time favorite band. But this version makes me get the "stank face". This groove... Damn!

@@ADNOMADA honestly both are fantastic, It would be a hard choice to choose between the two. The Hodge, James and Smith version is superb also and I have to mention the Perry and Sanlin version too.

I've been listening to this over and over since yesterday. I just realized that they actually COMBINED elements of EWF's version and Creative Source's ORIGINAL version. Overall this version is based on EWF's version, but on the chorus these guys go with Creative Source's vocal and rhythm arrangements. So THIS song, represents the best of both versions and Hummingbird's own GREAT embellishments.

Thank you so much for this!! I didn't realize EWF's version was a cover-- I knew that Jaye P Morgan's version was a cover, but I guess I need to listen to Creative Source next!!

I was born in 1976, into the world when it was still laid back. This is some smooth s***. I wish i could go back in time, get in a 1976 Chevrolet Nova or something, listen to this on the 8-track, as i just drive around with the windows down.

Wow...I'd never heard this before and I consider myself a funk/soul aficionad, but my brother came home with GTA IV over the weekend. Man, that series has turned me on to some GREAT music over the years. THIS is the lates. As much as I love EWF, this guys actually improved on this song. Never mind that the guitarist is laying down on hell of an Al Mckay-esque piece of work. EWFs version is to sparse instrtumentally speaking; this actually sounds what you would expect more from EWF.

Managed to get my hands on this cd via eBay , it's a pretty good album and this track is my favourite version of this song although I do like some off to the others I've heard , EWF , Art Webb , Creative Source , Najee, Carmen McRae and Dionne Warwick . I think the keyboard player in the middle picture should sue Javier Bardem for using this look in No Country For Old Men .

The groov-o-meter on this track is in the red. Earth Wind and Fire are a great great band, but their version of this track isn't nearly as moving (in my opinion! Yours might be different and that's fine too). This track literally has the power to change my outlook on a day or life in general.

Then you know about 'Stratus'. Then, it's okay, it balances out nicely.
Brilliant version of a classic song, yes I like EWF's however Art Webb with Twatha Agee's was also a great version. Dionne Warwick's live version is also great and Carmen McRae's is different yet very potent due the it's arrangement. Najee's instrumental is also worth a listen but for pure summer day funkiness Hummingbird and Creative Force win it for me. I wonder what Patti Austin could do with this song?
