Alaska Part 1: Arrival Anchorage & birding Nome June 4-9 2017.

This was a trip we planned for years before being able to afford to go. Part of the money-saving action was to NOT buy yet another videocam (last one broke on our fall trip to California 2013) but rely on our Canon 7D II. That was a descision we came to regret bitterly almost immediately... This means there is almost no video taken on this trip, and what video there is is bad. This in turn means that my videos from Alaska will mostly consist of photos taken (a lot!).
Anyway, we start soft with a half day in the Anchorage area, visiting Westchester Lagoon and Spenard Crossing.
The next day the trip started in earnest by flying to Nome for almost 4 whole days of birding. We got almost all Target Birds, and plenty of Musk Ox as cherry on top. Weather was way too hot, so it was already full summer and many birds had already started their breeding. That means less song and more secretive behaviour = much harder to find.

Hi and wellcome to my unassuming corner of YT, Tracy (me, guessing your name...)! Thx for the praise, it makes me blush a bit, but also gladdens me mightily. I put a lot of work into this glorified slideshow. One has to do *something* to compete on YT these days, mere low-res slideshows doesn't cut it anymore... Big difference from when I started the channel some 11 years ago. I had a 9 year pause after a PC crash mid-video and lost interest in videomaking a looooong time after. Much happened with KZbin in those inbetween-years.

Nice video editing work despite your video equipment not working well and your having to use photos instead! I like the sound editing you did with the bird songs to match the photos. Nice photos by the way, and I appreciate the storytelling alongside the birdwatching too! I’ll check out the other videos from your trip.

Thank you! Somehow I didn't see your comment until now, sorry for not responding before. Yes, not having a videocam on this trip turned out to be... uhm... sad. But, to be honest, I'm a iffy filmer even when I have one around. I usually forget to film when interesting things happen, bcs I watch in binoculars first, photograph after that, and *then* I film if the interesting subject is still around. (Which isn't very often.) So, I put very much work in these videos, to make *something* out of almost nothing.
