Humour & Fiction in the Bible with Prof. John Collins

Recently Prof. Collins appeared on ‪@MythVisionPodcast‬ discussing the obvious humour and fictional nature of the story of Jonah. He joins me to discuss both the funny & fictional elements, and offers his scholarly insights and recommendation for books covering the use of narrative in the Bible. He also chats about his experiences teaching Old Testament interpretation at Yale Divinity School and how students of various faith backgrounds reacted.

When Jesus spoke about the Son of Man he was referring to himself (cf. Matthew 11:19).

Incorrect. He was most definitely not referring to himself, but to the archangel Michael mentioned in Daniel 12. Note also Mark 8:38, which is NOT a first-person reference: ‘Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of Man be ashamed, when HE cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.’

Why? Because he's saying things you don't like. Bc he's deconstructing your precious book that you think is the infallible word of God? Aww you cannot handle the fact that the bible was written by men with their own agendas and for their own ends? 😂
