Nice video. Always wanted to catch some trains there.

It's definitely worth checking it out if you can. There are a few good spots for the yard And some spots where trains head north or south.

What was that worker doing up on there? Was he uncoupling the train cars as they came up?
@nkyrailfan3 жыл бұрын
That is exactly what he was doing. As the cars approach he walks with them and then pulls a lever to cut them apart. I bet that's a pretty stressful job.

Hello how's it going? Did you find out how the cars move without a locomotive? I've been curious about that
@nkyrailfan Жыл бұрын
Hello, Cory. The cars are pushed to the top of the hump hill and then uncoupled. Gravity then pulls them down the hill and they are sorted onto the track they need to go to. Because there is very little resistance between the steel wheels and rails, the cars are able to roll for quite a bit before losing momentum and coming to a stop. Hope this helps.

It is cool! Did you take this recently? I wasn't sure whetheror not Queensgate had resumed hump operations.

This was actually taken yesterday, Sunday 8/3/2020. I work in the Cincinnati area, and frequently see the hump in use.

@@nkyrailfan I didn't think the hump was still in operation either this must be one of the few that CSX has kept using.

this is very nice, i've never been able to see a hump yard in action sadly the only one i had in north carolina (hamlet) got axed when the clown regime (harrison) came on board and now the csx rocky mount nc yard is supposedly packed till bursting with its ineffecient flat switching. though i'd still love to visit cinci some day just to see this place in action along with the railroad mainlines in the area as well.

Cincinnati has a lot to offer railfans. I'm putting together two videos showing the main lines in and out of town in the next few weeks. That will give you a good idea of places to see if you're able to visit.

Absolutely love this video! The only bad part it's not long enough!..lol In the future, could you possibly do a video of just a hump working that's like 25 or 30 minutes?
@nkyrailfan4 жыл бұрын
I will make sure to get out there again sometime in the next few months. This was my first time seeing the hump in action. I was there shooting still pictures of the yard from a bridge and thought I'd get some video while I was there.

Do the Humpty Hump. I think it’s under channel BigBoy 4005 he has a hump yard in his big Lionel based O gauge layout which I have seen a few times.

I'll head back soon and do a whole video just on the hump and car sorting.
