Oh..you asked for comments about the aftermarket doors. For me, I'm in Alaska and shipping is an issue no matter what I do. I was concerned about going for used doors over the internet and trusting somebody (an individual) to ship them to me. I considered the RV window doors - there are arguments for and against them - they serve a purpose in the right situation. For me, the soft doors worked - but were unsafe off road. Plus you can't lock them - etc. Actually pulling up to a drive thru was a pain to zip the window down. The Midwest Military Doors fit without any grinding to the door skin. Normal striker/latch adjusting needed. But - WAY too much money- WAY too much - but the going price is the $4,000 range for them. I considered making my own, but needed doors sooner than later and needed them to work right away. Every Humvee that I've seen with the factory kevlar/fiberglass door had the same paint/cracking issues and would need work. But - I agree -$800 is way better than $4,000 and for me - I still have to paint them and had to pay $1,000 just in shipping!

Sorry, haven't commented in a while. I'm still keeping tabs. This build is going to be "Ballin' " as the kids say. Handbuilt, this thing could probably clear 150k to the right collector/buyer. You're building value in this thing, and it's going to be awesome! I love the multi-tone finish on the doors.

I hope so! Seeming what these go for especially dmax swap etc probably definitely around the 150k mark I agree. Thanks for keeping up with it! I know it’s taking me forever!

Nice work! I love the flat/gloss accents. I recently installed the Midwest Military Roll Up window aluminum doors. I haven't painted mine yet (need to wait on some warmer weather) so I'm soaking up other's journeys along this destination to see what might work for me. I'll be going factory woodland camo. My soft doors took a beating off road and were not safe (easy to puncture) - a hard door is so much better but they take a beating since these trucks are so wide. Most trails that Jeeps, Toyos, and UTVs run are way too narrow so when a fat girl like a Humvee comes along it just screeches as the limbs drag along the sides. I am not sure how I'll do the paint exactly as it needs to be super rugged. I like the idea of using a matte clear for durability over the color coat instead of single stage. Your attention to details is excellent - it pays off in a perfect looking and well performing project!

Wow! Living in Alaska must be amazing! I definitely see the need for hard doors! If you check out some of my older videos, I truck deadline the whole humvee. It turned out fantastic and is very rugged. I had the bed liner on there for two years and hasn’t chipped yet. I do like the factory woodland humvees. Thanks for your comments. Hope you get everything painted up soon!

Congrats on your 5,000 sub mile marker 🥳 Yes Sanding is by far the worst part. And it's not going to sand itself unfortunately 🤣 The best part is though once it's done right it shows. If it's done wrong it also shows. Doing a fantastic job. I'm definitely not the painter you are. Keep it up and can't wait for the body to be painted and set! Of course after the last door 🤐
@SplitBuilds Жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I’m not a painter, either just been learning over my past couple projects. It’s really not that difficult. It’s just really really time consuming. Thanks for watching!

The Basic Threat, Ballistic Doors you are working with are KEVLAR Composite (resin, no gelcoat). That is why you are not going to get the finish you are expecting! Also, any HMMWV and HMMWV parts painted prior to the mid-90 was painted with the "very dangerous" type Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (C.A.R.C.) When you sand that older, dangerous type C.A.R.C. you are basically creating a "Hazardous Waste Area"!!!
@SplitBuilds Жыл бұрын
I got the finish I wanted. That’s for sure. This humvee is a 2001 and still I believe it’s painted with CARC. I didn’t know they stopped using that kind of paint, but I guess you’re saying they did, you seem like a book of knowledge. Basic X doors with no steel plating or extremely flimsy. X doors are not ballistic or cannot stop any kind of round without armor. It might have Kevlar made up in the mix of it all but it’s not stopping anything. But the doors look amazing.
@jimbella9353 Жыл бұрын
@@SplitBuilds By the Mid-90s Fort Belvoir came up with a "safer" C.A.R.C. formula. AM General began using it on HMMWVs in the mid-90s, but don't have an exact break-point. Believe it or not those Basic Threat (you call X) doors do provide a level of ballistic protection. FYI: Each batch/run of Basic Threat-steel, Supplemental Threat-steel, Up-Armor- steel, Glass-ballistic, - Kevlar flat panel/pouches/mats/formed panels (including your X-Doors) ...must be “test shot” for compliance to MIL-STD-810 and other applicable sub-sections.

I hate the look and security of RV windows, they DO NOT belong on a military vehicle. I prefer the OEM glass or even bullet resistant glass. You might want to invest in a decent airbrush for those fine detail touchups. My Brother bought an X3 years ago out of a BMW lease plan, they gave him a warranty up to 100K miles and a good deal. Problems started at around 110K miles. Long story short, he sold it and went for Lexus. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy Holiday Season!

Hey buddy I just bought a 2002 M1123 and it won’t start. I changed the glow plugs (which needed to happen because they were all destroyed) and it worked for two weeks and now it’s not starting again. Any thoughts?
