Loved this! I learned from a nice ranch lady how to use tools more than one way. Then I worked for an excellent saddle maker but he was also an raging alcolholic. I eventually left.. He never paid me for 6 months. But I took my lessons and worked for others throughout my life.

Take the chance out of your circle size. Measure the points of the corners of the stamp where it touches the line. Decide the circle size you want, divide the circumference of that circle by your measure of the stamp. Round off the decimal. multiply that by the measure of the stamp and that will be the circumference you need. I subbed as soon as you imbibed the wisdom of "it is much easier to not be a perfectionist."

@@motoputz3201 Yeah.. Perfectionist's DO have a hard time accepting this. However, that is exactly where "Real World" mathematics comes into play. It did work-out the first few inner rings, but then the outer ring... that's where my OCD kicked-in, and I needed to figure some resolve, in the matter. Thank you!

So WHAT is the diameter of the circle? Very important! You gave us the stamp number but no diameter.

Hi Frank, 5cm or 2". You will just have to do a test run on a piece of scrap leather to test. The stamps are different sizes depending on when they were made, and it will make a difference how much you overlap the legs of the basketweave. I overlap about half the length.

All my leather is bought from Tandy here in the USA. The labels on the back show that some were tanned in Brazil, some in Argentina, and also Italy and Belgium.

The outside diameter of the whole little project is 4" (the swivel knife cut you see at the start of the video). You will have to guess from there. I no longer have that one to be able to measure....

The whole cord holder is just under four inches = 95mm, so the circle for the basketweave was about 1 1/4 inch = 32mm.

Vivienne Pierce, it is the right moisture content of the leather. It must be damp through, and just return to its natural color on the surface.

What was the diameter of the circle that you scribed?

BeelzIbob; His circle is about 5 inches in diameter, to figure out precise spacing measure the length of the basket weave stamp and then multiply, say 35 x the length, then divide by pi or 3.1415 and that will give you the diameter, divide the diameter in half for the radius and you will then have the spacing for your dividers. Example 5" diameter circle is 2 1/2 inch spacing on the dividers. Complicated a little, but will give you the exact spacing. I was an aerospace sheet metal mechanic. Stamp length from corner to corner is 0.75 inches x 40= 30" circumference, then divide by pi 3.141= 9.55" 9.55 inches circle divided by 2= 4.77 inches or just slightly larger than 4 3/4" and now you have your spacing for your dividers. I wouldn't worry about 1/16th of an inch plus or minus. It's not an aircraft & not going to fly. You can adjust up or down to get precise spacing on different sized circles.
