So here's the thing believe it or not in Canon a lot of demons have suggested something like this or some alternative but Muzann refuses to listen because he does not want change he wants things to stay in the same time and setting of his choosing that's why he's pursuing immortality so nothing changes nothing grows old nothing changes that's why a lot of his high-ranking demons are very lackadaisical when it comes to planning because muzan hate having any one having a upper hand other than him even if he can't refuse to think about it.

He literally did exactly that, but it went south. Douma's dumbass got poisoned Kokushibou took too long to actually kill the slayers in his 1v1's Kaigaku failed his 1v1 Akaza was put in a 1v2 but one of them wasn't even a hashira The only fumble is leaving Nakime alone, that's literally it.
