Three of my neighbors went to Mexico were from So Cal, as soon as they crossed the boarder in Mexico they were robbed and carjacked, they all ended up at the Police Station calling everyone and anyone to come pick them up, one of the Mom's went and got them.

So sad. I’m from SD but my family is from Ensenada and I’ve been going down there my whole life. I love Mexico but it can be very dangerous if you go to the wrong areas. Secluded places can be especially dangerous. We always have .22s on us when we go camping just in case. Anything higher caliber than that can get you into a lot of trouble down there. My condolences to their families and friends. What a terrible tragedy.

Less crowds, different atmosphere, different breaks, driveable (able to bring multiple boards without worrying about them breaking), some people like sleeping and waking up on the beach. I've done similar trips and it was an awesome experience, minus getting robbed by a Federale on the way back. As much as I'd love to go surf in Mexico again, I would go to a different Latin American country instead.

The days of packing up to camp and surf are long gone for awhile. We all did it to back in the days and even then it was , scary. They didn’t do anything wrong, just bad timing.
