Hundreds of Ghanaian voters celebrated on the streets of the capital Accra following the opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo's election victory. It was third time lucky for Akufo-Addo who came second best in the past two elections. His victory has cemented Ghana's reputation as a standard bearer of democracy in a in a highly volatile region. Akufo-Addo received over 53 percent of the votes, compared to his opponent, President John Mahama's 44 percent.
