I love so much how others who practice or study martial arts are so encouraging of others. Western boxing and MMA has removed the inner and spiritual part of martial arts. The west just took the violence for what ever will be most entertaining and will make the most money.

For Robert Wright, most if not all of the Chinese martial arts use a low stance with extended movements for training purposes. To practice fighting moves to the max extent of your reach (down with your legs, out with your hands) makes it easy to move from a normal fight posture with greater speed and strength. If you practice high kicks all the time, the low versions will be that much more powerful. This is why, and Its been observed, MMA fighters with a background in traditional arts make a lot of records, get a lot of wins from paying attention to early wisdom.

+Yaphett Pruitt Kung Fu stances are techniques to bind the enemy to you not only to strengthen your muscles.... To strengthen the muscles while learning the kung fu movements in a form is a pragmatic side effect. But the stances are techniques.

no, i have to say that the reason why kung fu has declined in popularity and authenticity is due to the fact that people are redefining was is pure and potent. everybody knows kung fu, right? yeah right. look at the form. look at how he shifts and moves with a certain determination that exemplifies the answer to your response. the iron bridges of hung gar coupled with plum flower post legs pffff forget about it.

Nice! Not often do you see people get the relaxation properly. People focus too much on power and end up becoming very stiff with this. It should look like this.

In the old golden harvest days, Most of what you see are the celluloid version of the myths of southern Shaolin temple that was spread around the south in Wuxia novels and hongmen organisations during 19th century. It’s only after 1982 with jet li that we the focus on Shaolin in cinema become more associated with what it is now mostly associated with: northern styles and Arhat boxing. The film Shaolin Temple was the first mainland Chinese martial art film after cultural revolution. And it was the first to actually be filmed at Shaolin Temple. The second was Prides Deadly Fury, which was the first film to show xingyi quan and bagua. Obviously what these films show are the reconstruction of these systems under deng xiao ping.

All the Gung Fu community has to do is start sparring and pressure testing the techniques we train in forms and we will be a strong force to respect in the combat sports

robert each movement has a practical applications. you can think of the kata as theory which u need to perfect which will take a lot time to and you need to practice each movement to its greatest detail. The process takes a long time and is complicated but when u understand it the applications are practical and dangerous. If you dont practise hung kuen/ karate or any other martial art that has katas you wont understand and take it at surface value.

You can tell the power of those arms, try pulling a punch, or rather, try to punch without just throwing your arm, not just have the momentum carry

do you really think that???? do you really think that he or his father in case they had to fight they would punch,kick......the same way they do in their forms?? they can really handle very big men without problems no doubt.
