Queen Ramble maybe it got translated as it is from Hungarian to English? Bear in mind different languages have different conceptions of time. For example, we Spanish speaking people have a more relative concept while you English speaking people are very exact. For example, if you said you’d arrive in 5 minutes to a certain place is because you are certain of it. In Spanish using resources like “give me a sec” “in a minute” “I’ll arrive soon”, party starts at 8:00, etc... usually indicate a short amount of time that the speaker doesn’t know the exact amount of and they’re used more often than in English, or fixing a certain hour for an event usually indicates the same will start 15 minutes to an hour after said time, indicating, however, that if you have arrived by the time the host said, it won’t be uncomfortable and totally fine. To give more seriousness to the sentences that are related to time, one usually indicates an activity one is doing or a place one is into so that the interlocutor can infer that the time stated will indeed be more or less what one has stated. Maybe Hungarian is sort of like that. And since the foreign knight had been winning all day long, when the prince fought him and vanquished him, in a few minutes, it would seem almost like if it was in an instant
@ezel995 жыл бұрын
Actually the translation is pretty incorrect there. In the original, the narrator is saying that the young prince was handling the sword so quickly, that the foreign knight didn't even notice he was killed. I have no idea why they choose to translate it that way, because it makes basically no sense. Before judging please keep in mind that a tremendous amount of information is lost, and altered in the translation, because Hungarian is HARD. If you have any questions, ask me ;)
@bennu5475 жыл бұрын
Maybe they just meant he died in one blow. Like that one sword swoop killed him instantly

Heard of many variations of this, interesting how stories travel around! For instance one of the variations had the two brothers put a knife in the tree and when it was rusted it meant he had died.

There was also a version that involved a spring. If the clear water from the spring ever became dirty, then it meant the other brother had died. Another cool example of fairytale's fluctuations with time :3

This tale is different from the rest. One of the brothers doesn't have a huge moustache. They don't hate each other. The younger doesn't take older brother's wife, instead goes to save his life. The wolf doesn't die brutally just for being a wolf and also the brothers are gays in incestious relationship apparently and kiss in the end. Love this one!
