Unlikely, the collapse , of communism, the economic despair that followed and the subsequent rise of ultra nationalism has left the Roma in utter despair. It's gotten so worse that Canada grands them asylum on the grounds of thread of persecution (if they can make it their - a short search will show you pictures I would never have thought possible in Europe.) .

I’m a little bit late but I just found this documentary. I live in the area and yes, they still live here. Some houses are in bad state, some in good. There’s a lot of tension between them and hungarians, also the country is pretty racist. But one thing for sure, they stand for each other as you said. At least what I saw always (unlike hungarians).

@@BaibaVulgaris - This is untrue, there are many instances all around the world, where common citizens refuse to employ them, refuse to rent accomodation to them, refuse to rent even a public hall so they may be able to organise a wedding. Many instances they do not even have a choice and so make the best of what they have to scrape a life together.

In my opinion europe changed them a lot from happy to sad and spiritually low, I thought freedom and happiness is the main thing for being gypsy. What if they travel back to India and be happy again? europe is cold and slow which is opposite to India,.

They believe in 1 god makes me even think these ppl are also not from India to lol we no they left from there in migration 1,100-1700 yrs ago but also Israeli Jews went to India around 2.000-2,300 yrs ago ? I grew up in a gypsy village in East Hungary . There are legit problems with this lifestyle when it comes to schooling children, heath care, sanitation and general life in a society with overwhelming Hungarian majority. Not enough room to explain. I do have lots of gypsy friends and can understand their language and absolutely love their music.

I remember when this series was on UK television. Nowadays we have a lot of the Roma from Romania and Hungary in London - sadly a large group are always sleeping on the streets in areas where I could never afford to live as the begging is better there. I remember the days of the command economies in the Soviet bloc - dreadful dependence on the state and low wages for all. Capitalism is much better

I dont know when and where this film was taken, because Iam Hungarian living in Budapest, but I am lisening, but they dont speak hungarian! And now in the 2021 I cant believe that some where in Hungary are places likes this in this movie!!! But again they dont speak not even ONE WORD IN hungarian !!! Sorry at 22 :00 when "white" people are speaking thats hungarian, but they speak some román language something which is something like a language, because it has 800 words and there is no Word for working, and this is true. But those days like you see in this movie its so far from this country now, that I just heard from it from my father. We are in the Unió of Europe, and Everything is like in a nice country, sorry but I cant compaire it to anything because I grown up here, and it was always like europiens countries 😊😊😊

Its a very old video, those pictures about the life of gypsies in Hungary not from the nowdays. Gypsies are like this if there any, because they want to live like this. In Hungary all gypsies live a good life since Orbán is the minister,since he is a gypsy too.😅 So this is a false video!!!!!

Maybe some education and work would help them. If they would want that. The men in the video was working, but when communism ended here the only thing forcing them to work was gone. Nowadays things are getting better though, since the government minimalised aid given/child (it was free money for breeding, which brings nothing to society) and now help with tax reductions or exemption for having children (you have to work though to make use of this).

The documentary was made in the late 80's and still even today, Hungary is a very very racist country. Unfortunately the minorities there are treated very bad. They literally don't want to have any minorities and the hungaryan government tries as much as possible to exclude them in any way, shape or form
