Learn how to play Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt on piano with this Synthesia piano tutorial! Please enjoy!
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-sharp minor is the second in a set of 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt, and is by far the most famous of the set. In both the original piano solo form and in the orchestrated version this composition has enjoyed widespread use in animated cartoons. Its themes have also served as the basis of several popular songs. The piece consists of two distinct sections. The first is the lassan, with its brief but dramatic introduction. Although beginning on the C-sharp major triad, C-sharp minor is soon established as the home key. From this point on, the composer modulates freely, particularly to the tonic major and the relative major. The mood of the lassan is generally dark and melancholic, although it contains some playful and capricious moments. The second section is the friska which opens quietly in the key of F-sharp minor, but on its dominant chord, C-sharp major, recalling a theme from the lassan. The alternating dominant and tonic harmonies quickly increase in volume, the tempo gaining momentum as the Friska's main theme (in F-sharp major) is approached. This portion of the song is energetic and offers breathtaking challenges requiring skill few other than Liszt could offer. Enjoy this wonderful piano tutorial and impress all your friends with a very well known and well loved song!
This piano arrangement of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 is fantastic to play! You can learn it with our Synthesia piano tutorial, or from our official Sheet Music Boss sheet music at the top of the description!

Special thanks to Rafał Bienias for the performance and LyricWulf for the video FX! My grandfather who died before I was born loved this piece. He bought the sheet music for my mum though it was beyond her ability, but she gave it to me and I did my best to learn it. So it's special to me. I really hope you like the cadenza I wrote at 8:50! -Andrew

And also, will you not try and stop me from making KZbin a better place for others because the statement you put will be more truthful for you than me. This isn't one of those performances that pianists who want some attention make, failing miserably and making a complete mess with the phrases, this is a perfect performance in which we can hear every single note distinctly, plus the expression is otherworldly! Absolutely in love with your original cadenza, feels like a direct extension to the piece and it completely fits the style that Liszt has already achieved. It’s a very organic cadenza, I enjoyed it immensely and I hope that this video becomes very popular, so lots of pianists play this cadenza when they play this piece. Much love, you guys always deliver.

It's literally around the half-way point in difficulty for Liszt's pieces. He wrote hundreds of more difficult pieces. There are also like ten pre-20th-century other composers that wrote harder pieces than Liszt ever did, like Alkan. To add the that, the post-20-century composers are five times worse.
