Hungary Faction Review for Bolt Action

If this review is just for the Armies of Italy and Axis book, its dead on. However, the Fortress Budapest book gives Hungary tons of options and unit variety, especially for infantry. You've got Arrow Cross Militia, Assault Pioneers, Border Guards, Paras, Vannay Battalion Flying Squad, and MORE, just within their infantry selectors. So I would say they have a great selection of infantry with all different veterancies and load outs, making them super flavorful.

Yes. For "minor" faction such as Hungary, you likely WILL be collecting them in correlation with a campaign book. That's probably the main reason I stopped these videos for a while after finishing off the main belligerent nations. Even France and Italy are lacking in their generalist books.

I think with the Hungarians you really need to take the fortress Budabest book into account when reviewing them. The book gives them 10 new infantry units, 1 new weapons team, 3 new artillery units and 6 new tanks. Aswell as 3 new army rules. The rules are (Pride of the Magyar (tanks get free advance move at the start of the game) , Street Barricades (d3 peices of hard core 6inches long that are deployed in your deployment zone or table edge) and the German Blitzkrieg officer rule which replaces the fanatic officers rule. Some of the new units are The paratroopers who remove D2 pins when the pass an order test kinda like the British vengeance rule, and they get the tough as old boots rule. assult pioneers that get a flamethrower and boarder guards that get to move 12inches through forests and deploy after all other units. They now get nebelwerfers for their artillery And one the their tanks is the 43m zrinyi 2 it's like the normal one but it can take HEAT ammunition letting you fire it like a medium anti-tank aswell as a medium howitzer. I think if you took this book into account the Hungarians would have been up there with the 4 main nations.

I agree but that's its own video. If I covered campaign books in these reviews they would be incredibly long and sparse in release.

and they have a AT rokects in artillery section that counts as a MMG style team weapons （aka. you can just put them straight into transport）

Romanian has both Axis support AND free artillery piece, these guys are the true sleeper OP faction imo

I am enjoying all of your faction review. Can not wait until you do the Romania. Both the Hungary and Romania both have cavalry except the Romania cavalry can take Panzerfaust. This makes them a highly mobile anti tank team with one shot. It's fun to play with cavalry even if you can not charge with them. I played a game where i had two large cavalry unit on out flank. My opponent thought here were coming in of the right side so he set up all his troops to deal with them on that side. They were really coming in on the left side. I just held them off board until turn 5. The threat of my large cavalry units tied up his whole army. I was over matched in the game so i was happy with a draw.

I was hoping to hear a little bit about the Danube flotilla squad with the dual mg08. They could be interesting in allowing you to take more expensive tanks, namely the hetzer, while providing you 6 shots at 36" without paying 25pts for the mg42.

Kinda bad to keep out the Fortress Budapest options... Flamethrowers are available for Border Guards and Assault Pioneers... Paratroopers Have "Tough as old Boots" for Melee.

If I included the campaign books in these videos I wouldn’t even have the main 5 factions covered by now. Campaign books really need their own video. It’s a lot of information

Whilst most armies can easily stand alone on their Country-book, Hungarians (and to a lesser degree Romanians) actually get so many totally mission options in Fortress Budapest that they play like another army alltogether, with the options presented. Maybe you manage to jump over your shadow some time, and read Fortress Budapest, without it, Hungary and Romania are as crap you tell us here. WITH that book (and Hungary has only this one book containing material for it), they are definitely viable.
