Could you also add a comparison with western and Eastern Orthodox Spiritual traditions? Many orthodox criticize the west’s use of imagination in prayer such as the rosary, ignatian exercises etc

I would like to see more comparative videos like this. I've seen a few Protestant videos that make a similar comparison but they're rather shallow and simplistic. Thanks for making great content!

A video, even a series, comparing the anthropologies of the Churhc and [insert a comparison] would be edifying and useful in this day and age. Christian anthropology is seen as backwards, while it truly is the quite the opposite.

I love your channel . Are you aware of any church fathers or doctors of the church or eastern Catholic saints which discuss the structure of the subtle bodies the way eastern traditions map the structure of the human spiritual structure ?
@historiaecclesiastica25 күн бұрын
Are you referring to the Eastern belief in the energy / spiritual centers in the body, ie the chakras?
@BryanKirch25 күн бұрын
@ thank you for the reply. yes, partially. In the East there are layers of “bodies” that construct the human. The most basic form in the west is body/soul/spirit. However in the East it’s much more refined and each of these bodies has qualities. The typical idea of chakras would be in the “soul” in western terms, however each subtle body has a corresponding “organ” in that area that connect each level to the next. There is a very detailed system in the East. I have not read many church fathers or doctors of the church but I’ve heard references to things such as the plant soul the animal soul, etc. in the East they also say that our various bodies are constructed out of these subtle materials that we in the west have called plant soul or animal soul corresponding first with the mineral body which is dense matter of our physical body. Then We have a body that is like the memory layer and is like the blueprint for our physical body that corresponds to the “plant soul” it’s often called a life body or energy body or pranic body. Then we have our soul which is where feelings and emotions are which is associated with the animal soul which is often thought of as an “astral body” then we have our individuality which we would call our spirit or individual spark of God or our higher self. Or personal “I am” These all have different functions as well as different types of consciousness associated with them The different chakras exist as energy centers of consciousness within the varying subtle bodies The human physical heart exists in the densest body of the mineral body but there is a corresponding energy center at each level of the subtle bodies which we commonly hear as chakra The burning sacred heart of Jesus would be a visual example of the experience of this heart chakra illuminating possibly Also when mystics describe “chambers” of their heart and interior spaces within the heart these are the subtle layers they’re accessing For me Catholicism is supposed to be the fullness of the Truth and it should include all Truth from all traditions. It should be the final distillation of religion. These spiritual realities exist and they’re well documented and diagrammed. I do feel that knowledge of these subtle realities can also be a distraction for many people because they fail to do the basics such as focus on the need of Christ for our salvation and the necessity of confession and the other sacraments However for people directly facing these spiritual realities the acknowledgement of them by the Catholic Church is necessary to keep such a person from feeling conflicted between his or her inner awareness and the outer teachings of the church Many modern Catholic mystics turn to Buddhism to stabilize themselves and I believe simply start teaching Buddhism instead which feels wrong. These systems should be brought in and refined in a Catholic context I was hoping some Catholic spiritual father had already done this for us

I think Christian Mysticism might have been a better title. Mysticism in the Eastern Churches is a good thing. Anything to promote solid values is a good thing.. BTW, the Carmelites, because of their history, has Eastern Church "DNA" within their traditions.
