Thanks Dave. I have found that looking into dieting and understanding the actual science about food, nutrition and exercise is difficult. My searches largely result in mostly click-bait "loose weight fast" type of "education". It is very hard to find honest information without all the marketing.

Stay tuned for my nutrition series then, it will be all information and no bullshit! Should get that going by late spring.

Well, what an interesting coincidence. I’ve gained weight this semester as I greatly struggle with emotional eating! I just added books about it to my amazon and plan on working on it greatly... Thanks Prof Dave

Hunger is something that most people in America and other developed countries rarely experience. Some may never experience it. I started (and still do) fasting every day meaning I don't eat anything until early evening. At first I would get this almost alarming sensation for a few minutes which quickly went away. I learnt that this is "hunger". Anyhow, the point is that human evolved to have periods of hunger whereas in our modern society food is everywhere and constant eating is encouraged.

I rarely get hungry, & have found out it may be because my ancestors suffered through An Gorta Mor, or the great hunger, in Ireland in the 1840's.. There's genetic differences, even descendants of the shorter Dutch famine, which a study showed effects of acute maternal undernutrition..

Is hemeostasis run but neural pathways built-in to a newborn babies brain? Are those function like memories? How are those neural pathways ‘learned’ in a new born? Are they ‘inherited’ memories? How does that work as it is neither operant nor conditional learning?

Sooo...when should I eat then? It sounds like you're saying not to follow a clock. So, should I eat when I'm hungry? Which you are saying is not a great metric...
@ProfessorDaveExplains3 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying you should or should not do anything. I'm explaining how the brain works.

If you do make a nutrition series, I would like to know your thoughts on the work by Dr Robert Lusting (how sugar is processed by the liver) and Dr Jason Fung (intermittent fasting supporter). Also, Nina Teicholz talks about the history of saturated fat. I've seen multiple low-carb promoters cite research studies like the women's health initiative. I've read arguments like: Yes, humans have been eating bread since ancient times, but even more recent forms of bread, like medieval bread, weren't like store-brand white bread we see today because things like the steel mill didn't exist. I've also watch videos like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/qILQoomMorJ1ac0 and I'm curious what your thoughts are on some of these topics.
